The ultimate media experience.

Watching the TV news coverage of the malfunctioning plane on which you are a passenger as it comes in for an emergency landing.

That was pretty spectacular all right. Picture perfect landing too.

I imagine Jet Blue's insurance carrier will be paying to resurface runway 25L.

In this Airbus, when the computer that steers the front wheel malfunctions (when this happens, the pilot has no control over the forward landing gear) the wheels will lock in a perpendicular position to the landing track. This keeps the plane in a straight line on landing. If the wheels didn't lock, the plane can veer right or left on landing.
The landing gear functioned as designed. It was the computer that directs the landing gear that malfunctioned.
Pretty awesome engineering and design.

Apparently, Jet Blue is now reconsidering their use of DirecTV on their flights! There was just a bit of a panic when the passengers realized it was their plane they were talking about. (I would imagine, so!)
