"Who appointed Diane Keaton to the position of National Commissioner for Aging Female Sexuality?"

Oscar asks. One of the commenters theorizes: "Maybe her appeal is that she's as sexy now as she was in 1970s, even if she's never been all that sexy."

One can just imagine her meeting with her agent: "I'm still the same ditzy goofball America loved with Woody, but now I'm a mature ditzy goofball!"

"Never been all that sexy"?! He's a lunatic.

He's right, though, that she doesn't really look like she's aging naturally. She only appears to be aging naturally if you put her next to a reanimated robot like Cher.

"never been all that sexy" ?
Someone should revisit "Looking for Mr. Goodbar".

Hey, if people want to think Diane Keaton is sexy I say more power to them.

But I thought her selling point was her earnest, complete and total lack of sex appeal. For example, she was cast in "The Godfather" because she was the anti-Apollonia; all straitlaced, prim and proper. Very un-earthy. And she was cast in "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" for the same reason. She was all uptight and looking at a future of spinsterhood (and she didn't want to have kids because of her scoliosis) so she got caught up in that unfortunate 70s cocaine fueled wildlife to her ultimate ruin.

Well, anyway. Different strokes for different folks. Me? I vote not sexy.

When in doubt, blame Woody Allen.

Although I completely agree that her role in "Godfather" pretty much drained the sexy quotient dry.

Regardless, I'd nominate Kathleen Turner, but I understand she currently has complicating issues.

Helen Mirren! She looked HOT at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

Different strokes for different folks. I guess you see 'prim and proper' as being the antithesis of having sex appeal. On the other hand, I do not. I find it to be very sexy, while in most cases I find the vamp look to be rather unappealing.

The thing of it is, some of those vamps clean up pretty nice.

P.S. There might be someone out there who doesn't get the joke and might get the wrong idea so I'd better make it clear, just in case.

Those are two different people. The first is the "Prince" Apollonia and the second is the "Corleone" Apollonia -- a type more Greek than Italian.

Bene.

Bissage,

Your joke might work better if the second picture wasn't 403.

I second Helen Mirren.

Actually, I was positively taken aback by Judi Dench in Mrs. Henderson Presents. She smoulders.

Diane Keaton, I don't get.

Not only have I never fantasized about Keaton -- I can't even quite figure out why I ever would.

She's attractive, yes. Sexy, no.

I tried to re-watch Manhattan the other day and I just couldn't get into it at all! I once really enjoyed that movie. What happened?

Tastes change, I guess? It remains my favorite Allen film.

[B]lake, this one’s for you:

EnigmatiCore implied that Apollonia’s a vamp.

Well, the thing of it is, some of those vamps clean up pretty nice.

If that doesn’t work, I give up.

She's everywhere, Diane Keaton is.

During the Super Bowl, during the Golden Globes, in Clairol adverts, in insurance ads for seniors.

And forever wearing the Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang outfits. ENOUGH ALREADY!

She was cute for 30 minutes, but like Michelle Phillips, it's been downhill all the way since 1979.

Cheers,
Victoria

I'm totally agreeing with Katie here.

Kathleen Turner looks like a bloated chipmunk, although her voice still shivers my timbers.

But Sophia Loren is the most fit 70 year old anywhere.

She has legs at 70+ that I didn't have at 20.

Cheers,
Victoria

You may have inferred that, that, but I implied no such thing.

I was talking in much more general terms.

I nominate Isabella Rossellini. I'll take her over any of the others mentioned here any day.

vbspurs said...

Although Isabella is getting long in the tooth, the lady is not even 50, or just turned, no?

I LOVE Isabella Rossellini. She's one of my woman crushes.

But she's just not in the same age galaxy as say, Diane Keaton.

I'd like to nominate Catherine Deneuve.

The Hunger. Yowza!

Cheers,
Victoria

Perhaps Oscar's 50 something blow up doll would do?

What would possess him to write such a mean spirited post? Is he really Norman Bates in drag?

For those struggling to find someone hot and in the 60 year old range how about 65 year old  Julie Christie,  63 year old  Lauren
Hutton
or 59 year old Cheryl Tiegs ?

What's weird is that she has two kids, both of whom are adopted, and she has no husband, no boyfriend, or apparently a female partner either.

Then there's her obsession with covering up her body, especially with her omnipresent gloves.

A treat she.
