The Jump Up Internet Rescue School.

It's a government-run treatment camp in South Korea, aimed at young guys who are in danger of plunging into a life lived on line.

Don't you think it's interesting that the article that is #1 on the NYT most-emailed list is about internet addiction? And, for that matter, that I'm blogging about it?

Yeah, irony, got it.

And we're commenting about it! An infinite regress begins...

It's funny, I just watched an episode of "Nature and Science" on CCTV that had a segment on exactly the same type of camp in China. Yet the NYT writer thought that the Korean camp was possibly the only one in the world. He needs to watch more TV.

http://www.cctv.com/program/natureandscience/01/index.shtml

The episode is:
"07/11/16 The Discomfort of Sweaty Palms

Getting Rid of Internet Addiction"

The two segments are unrelated.

Dr. Helen is much darker than Glenn.

The woman is supposed to be the fair-haired, light one....and the man is supposed to be tall dark and handsome.

I wonder if she feels at all self-conscious having darker hair than her husband ???

Love,
Maxine

This is almost as uninteresting as that Alaniss Morisette song about irony.

The one where she got the definition of irony wrong...

So uninteresting that wittle kwistopher has posted two out of the five comments already. Tell us again why it's massively uninteresting, kwis? From the looks of the "death penalty" train wreck of a thread, you have already spent your entire day here so what's a few more minutes of boredom?

Literally the most predictable post on the internet today, with no twist or insight or or anything else. Hmmm. Are the writers on strike at Althouse, too?

Jesus H. Christ, look "AJD" has yet another fake name. Points for going from "Kingsfield" to "Conan" in the space of a day.

It's never boring when a self-hating gay guy who thinks the Republican Party doesn't hate him shows up.

It's the young Roy Cohn, everybody!!! Give him a big hand!!!!

Palladian said...

Everyone here knows that you're talking out of your silly ass. If you're going to slime me, at least make some pretense of actual accuracy. I'm not a Republican, and I'm not even going to deny your stupid psycho-babble about being "self-hating". My problem is that I regard myself way too highly. It's other people that I hate. I was going to say I hate you, but I don't, really. You're too uninteresting to hate. You're like a clone of our Lucy without the personality, without the crude, abrasive charm. You're tiresome, Kwissy.

Kingsfield and Conan? Well, on the internet you can be an alpha male. What's that quote in the article? "He said he quickly came to prefer the virtual world, where he seemed to enjoy more success and popularity than in the real one." Why, on the internet, you can be a law professor or a muscle man!

Kingfield and Conan? I thought it was one of those new high-end hams, and it turned out to be the same old turkey loaf!

Let's see, so far I think it's:

Art Vandelay, Billy G., Bruce A., Clarence D., Donald D., Harold H., Jiminy C., Kingsfield, Matlock, Sigmund, Theo, Conan...

but who's counting?

Doris: Burt, was right about you. You're a self-hating Jew.

Harry: Hey, I may hate myself, but its not because I'm Jewish.

Mmmhmm, I look at this article and you know what I see? It's all guys. I imagine that every session at every one of these camps is a total sausagefest.

You don't need special camps to tell us that spending all our time on the internet is bad. We know that already. The problem is that women don't want to do things with guys like us. They've been told that they should trade up, look for fun, Girls R #1, drop that zero and getcherself a hero! Don't settle; you deserve the best.

Of course, we'll have our revenge in about twenty years, when the current generation of women realizes that they're childless, unmarried, and in their forties.

Dude, the goal is to get laid, not to get revenge. There is a lid for every pot, but maybe you should adjust your expectations. Anyone can make themselves interesting and fun and someone the ladies will want to be with. Just be honest and kind and thoughtful and giving and the poontang will be there. You will be beating the women off with a stick. Unless you are Lucky, then you will just be home beating off.

Theo,

Those of us who remember you would never confuse you with AJD, no worries.

Shane: So you're Jack Wilson.
Jack Wilson: What's that mean to you, Shane?
Shane: I've heard about you.
Jack Wilson: What have you heard, Shane?
Shane: I've heard that you're a low-down Yankee liar.
Jack Wilson: Prove it.

Joey: Was that him? Was that Wilson?
Shane: That was him. That was Wilson, all right, and he was fast, fast on the draw.

Joey: Shane! Come back

Theo Boehm: I did not mean to imply that you were one of AJD's sockpuppets. However, AJD did use the username 'Theo' to sign a comment or two back there somewhere.

I'm sorry to think that anybody would have gotten the sockpuppet 'Theo' confused with the sorely-missed Theo Boehm. Your comments were a highly valuable part of this site, and I personally don't understand why Althouse seems happy to permit assorted dickheads to pee in the punchbowl here.

If ever there was a sentence that belonged in a movie such as Animal House, it would have to be the one from "Trooper York".... There's enough in that sentence to keep a therapist busy for years.. :-)

"Just be honest and kind and thoughtful and giving and the p**ntang will be there."

D, don't be a playa hater baby. Hate the game, not the playa.

Ah, what am I supposed to do, spend my whole life monitoring comments? Obviously, Theo Boehm was a terrific commenter, and a lot of us are sorry he dropped out. I wish he'd write now and then. I don't understand what it was that made him leave, but some level of abusiveness is part of what happens when you let people have a vigorous debate, which I do. Note the good that comes with it along with the bad.

That said, I did make a big improvement over the weekend. Does anyone notice?
