"Hell of a rollout. Not."

Says Big Tent Democrat, noting Kos, who said:
This has been the best veep rollout EVER....

And is there a better example ... that old media is getting left out in the cold?...

Brilliant! We've got a lot of campaign a head of us, but this has been the Obama campaign's finest operation thus far.
And I thought I smoked too much blog.

a disaster.

the teasing delays looked to most of us like incompetence

the timing has got to suck. Saturday at dawn? Christ!!...

The conventional wisdom on that timing would be that he was embarrassed and wnted to bury the story.

He drug it out until the 11th hour for Biden? Geez, talk about anti-climatic.

LOL!

Talk about leaving a lot of people feeling left out.

Imagine if a Republican did this.

How about the old social security pensioner who doesn't feel comfortable with the technology?

How about those that can't afford it?

Democrat does it....

Brilliant!

Anti-global warming climatic change we can believe in?

Ann did you make that up "smoked too much blog"? It's a good one!

Hey Drill Sgt - great comment last night re Bernardine Dohrn. I plan to share it - succinct and to the point. It showed truth is far stranger than fiction.

The whole text/email rollout was a dumb idea. It didn't add any value to the process (value being - more voters) and it probably was a logistical nightmare for Obama's IT people. And if everything was delayed because of IT issues, then it does make the rollout look clumsy at best.

Yeah. I hope it's a meme!

"The whole text/email rollout was a dumb idea. It didn't add any value to the process."

Obama was collecting phone numbers to use later. That explains dragging it out.

Maybe so. I hope he collected enough of them from this particular stunt (donors, volunteers and people who had previously signed up for email alerts already provided most if not all of that data) to make it worth it.

Hey Ann Althouse, "And I thought I smoked too much blog" is an all time classic. It will reverberate through the Age of the Blogs.

I agree, a fitting addition to the empty banner

What was that song "Tossing & Turning"? Bet the words "smoking too much blog" could be subsittuted into its music to make a catchy blog jingle for you.

What other blogs have their own theme song?

I'm wondering who all he was waiting on, but finally turned him down, which led to the weird timing. Maybe Hillary. Maybe Nunn. Biden is what he is, but I can't believe he was Obama's preferred choice. He doesn't help win in the south, and he doesn't turn a single red state blue anywhere.

Is that Warren Beatty smoking a hookah in your new ad?

Back in my day we just used to do lines of blog off a mirror...smoking blog has stiffer legal penalties you know...You may have smoked too much, but at least you didn't inhale with Cruel Neutrality!

Althouse coinage of 'smoked too much blog' reminds me of Academy Award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody's 'honest to blog?' which caught her no end of grief.

Diablo Althouse.

Saturday at dawn? Christ!!...

Just like Easter.

It was "dragged out" because why crush the McCain can't remember his houses story with this one, when this one will receive plenty of play in the coming week?

Ann, a bit of analysis from you would be welcome, as opposed to the juvenile blog-smoking attack (what does that even mean?).

Host with the Most said...

So now the stumbling, "nuanced" questioned Obama will answer:

"Uh . . . I think . . . well . . . JOE?"

Poor Lisa became a liberal and had to turn in her sense of humor.

Nah, that's not it. If anything it was Obama who ended up getting majorly gobsmacked in the house comment exchange. There was something else going on. My guess is Obama was holding out for but didn't get who he really wanted. Could've been the Hillster.

I thought it was Arnold Schwarzenegger about to be orally raped by a robot.

"Ann, a bit of analysis from you would be welcome, as opposed to the juvenile blog-smoking attack..."

What do you want me to analyze? I've said what I had to say: The slow rollout was tedious, not brilliant.

But I do think there was a strategy to collect cell phone numbers which might have been worth it. Anyone with brains should have seen that and not signed up, so what BO has is a list of dumb people.

There, do you like that?

The rollout announcement was scheduled for 11 PM Friday. Obama called Biden at 10:30 PM to convey the news that he had selected Biden as his running mate.

Then Biden began talking. The announcement was made at 3 AM Saturday, as soon as Obama hung up the phone. Michelle had to wake up one of their kids, and make her cry, so Obama could excuse himself to see what was wrong.

vbspurs said...

The roll-out looked manipulative, disorganised, and arrogant. 3 AM on a Friday/Saturday night? Do you know how much disrespect that is to MSM, whose reporters had to stay up? Larry King, Hannity/Colmes, Olbermann/Matthews.

All these guys were there at 3 AM, because presumably their networks didn't let them go to bed until the roll-out.

Why not wait until Saturday morning, showing both men together in the crisp morning air?

I'm tired of the rockstar treatment to his audience, Obama. You're also a very poor Maria Callas.

Cheers,
Victoria

It's not exactly what I had in mind when I thought of 'morning in America.'

Don't bogart that blog, my friend,
Pass it over to me.
Post another one just like the other one,
This one's burnt to the end.
Come on and be a friend.

The whole VP leadup was much ado about nothing...or just another traditional political desperation move.

Althouse -- If you don't analyze it, Lisa won't be able to slam you and say you are all kinds of wrong.

Your strategy is good in my opinion. Issue a short statement and get back to your pure Colombian stash of blog.

I see with the story about Michelle having to wake up one of the girls so Obama can hang up the starting of a meme that may not be advantageous for him.

I'm prepared to accept that there was some well thought out strategy behind making the VP announcement this way. I just wish someone would explain it.
