OK if humans don't measure up, then replace them with what? Answer is always the same: SUPER humans. No wonder the elite thinkers want to go to a Startrek world of space travel where they are not stuck with plain humans. I remember that Neitche and the social darwinists called their imaginary supermen Ayrians. The Egyptians called them Sun God Pharoahs. When will some one of these educated elites actually think a new thought??

I think the tag "human inadequacy" should be replaced with "things that teenagers think are profound while stoned."

Um, what?

Humans are fallible and imperfect? Hmm. Maybe JAC will evolve into a conservative yet. ;)

(The afore-going being the central insight of conservatism).

It's the "central insight of conservatism" only according to conservatives. Meanwhile, I think most liberals are well aware that humans are imperfect. Liberals and conservatives just disagree on where government should do the most to try to fix things. Of course, conservatives also want the government to do a lot to make the world/humanity better (social issues, crime & punishment, military intervention, etc.). Both sides agree that people have lots of problems and that the government should do a lot to solve them.

The idea that "conservatives" have a unique "insight" about the "fallibility" of human nature sounds lovely, but I don't see how it's based on anything in the real world.

Might possibly be the same thing.

The key insight of conservatives also has the two remedies...(1) Private Property rights and (2) a Trial by Jury when the Government plots to have you killed off on a faked accusations so they can steal or take (tax) your property. The corollary is that you need Ethical Lawyers and Judges in the legal system to create 1 and 2 above. Teach them well Professor.

Actually -

1) Rule of Law

2) Property Rights

3) Education of the young

Get those three right, and you wind up with a place fit to live in.

Read Ray Kurtzweil on the Singularity. We are still evolving.

One difference between those who tend liberal and those who tend conservative, is that the liberals lean toward believing humanity can be perfected, preferably through equality. Conservatives are quite sure humanity can't be perfected and want rules to establish civility.

That's a gross generalization, so don't jump down my throat.

Most people are neither. Most people believe humans are far from perfect, but believe they can become better though never perfect.

Whenever I see a "Jac" (John Althouse Cohen) tag, I think "Ann" (Althouse's Needling Nepotism).

Check out the December 3 post with that tag. It makes self-righteous, too-cool-for-the-world attitude into an art form.
