"Mr. Augusto said he had bought the gun, a Winchester 12-gauge pump-action with a pistol-grip handle..."

"... after a robbery 20 years ago and had a permit for it. 'Not even touched in 20 years,' he said. 'Not even touched. I wish I didn’t need to.'"

any bets when Al Sharpton et al are going to hold their protest against this shopkeeper?

any bets when the NYPD are going to charge the shopkeeper with manslaughter?

any bets how long it will take b obama to weigh in on the situation?

Maybe this is how our 70 year old worthless people under Obamacare will need to handle the new National Health Cost Control Board bureaucrats. They could bring their 12 gauge with them and give those Bureau of Early Death appointees some free end of life counseling of their own.

I'm with him - better to be prepared and not need to use a firearm than to be a dead victim, which, according to most liberals, is the morally superior position.

WV - dersick - and I agree.

Mr. Augusto did not act stupidly.

You know, if this was the general result of theft attempts, there'd be a lot fewer attempts.

The Money quote: “Better him with a tag on his toe than my mother planning a funeral for me,” he said of the gunman.

My repise of a great old saying:

You never need a pistol, till you really need a pistol!

So it goes

Liberal gun haters need to post a sign where they live - no guns inside. Be true to your beliefs. Let everyone know that you are unwilling to defend your life. Be a man.

Sorry, that last comment didn't make sense to me.

When the robber produced a handgun it stated an intent to use fatal force against the shopkeeper and employee.

Time to respond in kind.

NKVD was making a couple of points. One was that if the anti-gun people would post little Not-NRA signs outside their homes we could cut down on gun violence.

Your average burglar, given a choice between robbing the house with the Semper Fi decal in the window and the Not-NRA sign on the lawn will make a rationale choice.

Thus one less dead burglar, and lower gun violence statistics, unlss of course he's a serial killer named Manson, then the liberal family has got a problem.

Gus Augusto saved the lives of his employees and himself. Period end of stories. 2 sub-human pieces of filth gone and 2 more with battle-damage to hopefully never do it again and will most likely get the max. I applaud this man for what he did even though is came at a great cost to his personal safety and mental well-being. He said he didn't wish he had to do it, but he did it. May God bless him and heal him and his workers.

Liberals and leftists tend to squeal like stuck pigs about weapons, specifically guns whenever they are used for self-protection. Therefore, they should hold try to their convictions and make anyone and everyone around them or may come in contact with them that they are unwilling or incapable of using a firearm or weapon of any kind for self-defense. So it is in their best interests to post this fact wherever they are, namely in their places of business or their homes. Just post a big fat sign that proclaims that any criminals are now entering a gun-free or weapons-free zone. Make sense now?

I will be very disappointed if Obama mentions this case at any point in the next two weeks -- unless it is to pardon the shopkeeper -- if things ever progress to the point where the shopkeeper needs a pardon (I don't see why he should).

He'd earn brownie points with me if he said something along the lines of "nice shooting".

Fine work by Mr. Augusto, and the news is made even richer by reading that he and his staff are all unharmed.

As the great Harry Callahan said, "Nothing wrong with shooting as long as the right people get shot!"

Like the old saying goes, "It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

Damn, all four scum didn't die.

Oh, and perhaps he take a second job teaching the NYPD how to shoot, since they completely suck at it.

I've certainly had some very nice times with pump action and pistol grip handles myself. I don't understand where these fellows went wrong.

Since he only killed 2 of the 4, I say we send Mr. Augusto to the gun range.

WV: efulturf

And if you don't, I'll shoot you.

Interesting counterpoint to the NYT's constant anti-gun drumbeat -- the most recent theme of which is how America should change its laws because Mexican druglords are arming themselves here. More interesting still because in Manhattan you need the clout of A.G.'s grandfather (or Andrew Cuomo) to get a carry permit for a handgun.

The article made mention that Mr. Augusto's gun was properly registered, but neglected to tell us the gun registration status of the robbers.

Mathadras, YOUR comment made sense. But this is the part that NKDV said that doesn't make sense to me:

Let everyone know that you are unwilling to defend your life. Be a man.

By definition, an unwillingness to defend your life is lack of manhood. But then in the next breath he tells those who have no manhood to be a man.

blake said...

Actually, having the courage to stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets you killed, is pretty manly.

ok.
