"How would you feel if your new boyfriend kept calling his ex?"

And his ex was Madonna.

My theory, Kate: Madonna is more interesting than you. He called her because he wanted to talk to someone who had things to say. But it does make one jealous, and jealousy makes you more boring. It's a vicious circle.

Does the same theory apply when you blog about your ex?

Since the Professor and the ex have two children, I'd imagine that they talk once in a while. Or is there a different theory?

I suppose "we broke up because he's infatuated with Madonna" sounds better than "we broke up because our publicist told us to".

Blogging about someone and talking to someone directly are clearly 2 different things.

the a-rod madonna thing to me has always played to Madonnas ability of being attractive to latins and gay men. A-Rod possibly covers both ends of that spectrum?

A-Rod was calling Madonna on tips to improve his beard. Apparently Kate didn't like her suggestions.

Kate is a sweetheart, caught in a triangle with two playas. She did the right thing in getting out of there. This wasn't nearly so much about "calling his ex", as it was about "who should you be with".

That's why it's important to get your ex girlfriend in bed with your current girlfriend early in the relationship.

My theory, Kate: You married a major league A-Hole.

MayBee said...

Who would go into a relationship with A-Rod thinking he's going to be a good boyfriend?

The ex he was calling on Kate's watch was the new girlfriend he was calling on his wife's watch before she became the ex.

MayBee said...

If Kate's lucky, A-Rod will get a new girlfriend and then start calling Kate again.

If it's an issue of looks, who in their right mind (I realize I may be answering my own question) would prefer Madge, as the tabloids in Blighty call her, to Kate? Whether Madge is really that interesting up close and personal is another issue, most actresses being notoriously one-dimensional.

The daughter of The Blonde's regular LPN is involved with a guy who felt obliged to run to his ex's bedside (in Pittsburgh) when she was stricken (forget with what). The daughter eventually guilted him into staying here, but the consensus seems to be that the original marriage isn't over yet, divorce notwithstanding.

This may be a similar situation.

Oh you Beta commentors are pathetic!

Just look at the photo at the top of the link. Kate on the left looks unhinged and needy, while A-Rod and Madonna exude class and sophistication.

A-Rod and Madonna are at the top of the social strata (because they act that way); Kate is a few notches below and it seems that all she can do is whine about it.

The article refers to her as "Starlet Kate Hudson."

Kate Hudson is 30 years old and has been a high-profile actress since she supposedly enchanted the nation in "Almost Famous."

Julia Roberts was 30 in "My Best Friend's Wedding". Elizabeth Taylor was 26 when she made "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." No one was referring to them starlets.

For the last 40 years, the whole world is defined by the baby boomers' perspective. It infuriates me, even though as a gen-Xer it's mostly been to my benefit.

Ann Althouse said...

And Kate's mother was a big star, so there's a special hurt coming from the Madonna-is-like-Goldie place.

That Kate Hudson just can't keep a man.

"A-Rod and Madonna are at the top of the social strata"

Thankfully, I can not even see that high.

It seems that famous people nearly never hook up with us regular folks. It's depressing to think that these people are more interesting than all the rest of us. I can't even fake that crap.

ricpic said...

What makes you think A-Rod is "interesting?"

Ann Althouse said...

I didn't say A-Rod was interesting. I guessed that he was bored. As has often been observed, if you get bored, it might be because you are boring.

Krumhorn said...

I dunno, Ann. As between Kate and Madonna, I think Kate is far more interesting company. Madonna creeps me out a little....actually a lot.

I believe this all depends on whether the caller was dumped by the callee. I believe there is a 100% correlation.

Fred4Pres said...

Well look on the bright side, at least he is not calling Bristol or Willow Palin!

careen said...

But wait wait! I heard that A-Rod dumped Kate because she was manipulating him for publicity and he'd already had enough of that!

Since we're discussing fictional characters, did Batman or Spiderman get more chicks? Was it because Batman was gay?

I hate texting. That A-Rod spent a lot of time texting anyone was grounds for a split. Who wants to be around someone who can't pay attention to the moment because they are so busy thumbing out one-syllable words? Texting is the new vast wasteland of human interaction. Oh sure you see little reminders and exclamations, but mostly you see boredom.

But it does make one jealous, and jealousy makes you more boring. It's a vicious circle.

It is indeed a vicious circle. It's also one of the least-discussed pathologies wrought by the sexual revolution.

Jealousy can be an absolutely devastating state. It gives a person a glimpse of psychosis -- a taste of what it would be like to lose one's mind. "So this is what crazy is," we realize as we get dangled at the edge of the emotional abyss.

A society that respects marriage, monogamy and fidelity doesn't put itself through this to any great extent. We, on the other hand, have saddled ourselves with it on a massive scale. It's an inescapable byproduct of a culture that embraces the principle of screwing whoever you want. We live amid the stench of shattered pride and broken inner peace, constantly breathing the threat of broken trust.

Worst of all is that our ancestors had learned all this for us. They gave us marriage and monogamy for a reason. They'd done all the hard work. And then we bop along in the middle of the 20th century and decide we're smarter than all those messages embedded in those millennia of tradition, and throw it all away.

Do you think that A-Rod just wants celebrity company, and that he will really never be in love with anyone again but the Madonna. As the Yankees turn.

Madonna is interesting? That nutcase, who suggested all nuclear reactors should be filled with Kabbalah water, is interesting? That bitch, who dissed her best friend from high school - on camera during "Truth or Dare" - is interesting? That serial divorcee and homewrecker - whose most recent ex-husband labeled her "retarded" - is interesting? Please, Ann, don't believe the hype:

"Esther" may be intertesting to A-Rod, but that says more about his dumb Kabbalah-sucking ass than it does about anyone else.

Madonna's a whore - not even a talented one - and that'll always be her claim to fame. It's why feminists applauded her and gays love her - the rest of us, not so much.

As true as all that is - and it is - such words are a waste of breath around these parts, dude,...

This silly bitch got married to someone whose ex-wife was Madonna.

I have no sympathy at all for her.

This whole thing is silly. Kate tried to prove she could control A-Rod, and he showed her he is an inconsiderate boob. Women really ought to learn to let a man have his friends and his toys. If he's being unfaithful, then you cut him off. Too many women like to tell a man whom he can't talk to. Ridiculous. Kate could've had some good sport with the calls and the texting, instead, she threw a snit. She's as ego-centric as he is.

I remember her at a basketball game with Dennis Rodman. She so small and he so, well, dirty. I thought about . . ., and even now I can't finish the thought.

Theo Boehm,

Yea, from all the available evidence, she'd be stimulating to talk to alright.

Go get her, hot dog!
