It's some asphalt's fault the faults appeared.
What happens when the patches crack?

Why bother fixing the symbol of something that was a bad idea 40 years ago and hasn't improved with age?

Oh, right - Wisconsin.

Men have hanged for less.

The "internationally recognized symbol of peace."

Symbolic, perhaps, of the cracks developing internationally in the socialist welfare state model.

The IMF to the rescue!

Cracks patched?

OK then!

Most of us prefer a smooth road, El Pollo.

Can you introduce us to the team that worked tirelessly to make it so?

Men have hanged for less.

But were they hung?

"But were they hung?"

I can shamefully wish it to be so.

Penny said...

Was that TMI, or did it in fact, endear you to me?

Penny said...

So, El Pollo?

How do YOU hang?

woah. slow down folks. dont forget this is a public forum. just exchange phone numbers and get on with it in private.

did anyone see that interview w/ McChrystal on PBS ? I'm really surprised at you conservative types that believe in COIN. It sounds like wishful thinking to me.... nation building, gaining the trust of the locals even though you're clearly an outsider with the big guns and the money.

if it wasnt so obvious that Petraus and McCrystal were republicans i would have though people would label COIN as a liberal dream.

we need to get out of there, and then just stick with the drone attacks and other CIA missions like we are doing well in Pakistan.

"Patch vobiscum" Wonderful! I wish I had come up with that one!

Men are hanged. Pictures are hung.

Funny, danielle. I would suggest quite the opposite.

BECAUSE this is a public, internet forum...nearly anything goes.

Wake me up from my wet dream when we all need to log in with our social security number.

On a more serious note, danielle wants to discuss COIN as a Middle East war strategy.

Frankly, it seemed to make sense to me that troops would try to win the hearts and minds of Afghan families.

Unfortunately, I recently read at the Belmont Club, that COIN would give way to a broader understanding that the Pakistanis were not willing to play this game of COIN.

Instead, they would proceed to be the financially and morally supportive state behind subversive Al Quada actions against the US and her allies...without, of course, printing up a new theater handbill.

The United States, being ever flexible, has agreed to take a starring role in the next chapter of an old story that, so far, THANK GOODNESS, refuses to have an ending.

I suspect that Afghan kids will miss the COIN. Not unlike American kids who also miss their coins.

The old broken cross on Wisconsin?

Figures.

That's nice...until an ISLAMIC terrorist cuts your head off with a dull saw...oh that...

How the hell does a rational being speak of our defeating Afhan mountain tribesmen amd their Iranian supply officers who have us in the perfect location to ambush us forever and ever, at the same time we are announcing to every sentient being on the globe that the USA is in the process of arranging the pulling out its forces in a few months time? Surrendering Obama style is an activity of gross self deception.

So danielle regurgitates the same old lies of the Vietnam War.

Color me surprised. After all, none of that stuff worked in Iraq. The war was lost.

Dingy Harry said so.

It's construction season!

I'm not sure why they're tearing up Park Street again outside Granger Hall. Didn't they just do that?

least we forget the 60s and role UW played....

Ann Althouse said...

This is not on the UW campus or even in Madison. It's one town out, in Middleton. Cracks in the parking lot of a place of business have been patched to form a peace sign. What do you think of that?

Opus One Media said...

What I think of that is I am happy to see that sign whereever it appears.

Vile corporatist street patchers!!

Eh. I'd be more impressed if it were the image of the Virgin Mary. Especially appearing outside of Madison. I'll have to check my driveway tonight...think of all the cash for admittance and remission of sins I could pocket from allowing people to pray at the Virgin...

I'm relieved to hear that it's not in front of Sterling Hall.

I'm coming back to Madison in August and will hopefully catch some of the 40th anniversary and laying to rest the Madison anti-war extremism.

Mt pleasure Penny!
They work tirelessly to give us a smooth road.

Was that the answer you sought?

I hang together with my Twitter tribe--otherwise, most assuredly, we hang separately as commenters according to the whims of our hostess. :)
