"Deficit reduction has been a high priority for us. It is our mantra, pay-as-you-go."

Said Nancy Pelosi.

Let's cut the defense budget to the size of France's. No more handouts to Egypt and Israel. No more subsidies to grow corn or make ethanol. Raise the annual out-of-pocket expense of government employee health care to $5000. Cut all salaries by 10%.

So I guess that makes her a disingenuous witch...and a liar.

But no one will know how high the priority is until the legislation is passed (or deemed passed).

It's sort of like a scratch off lotto card that way.

I tell you Winston, that reality is not external. Reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else. Not in the individual mind, which can make mistakes, and in any case soon perishes: only in the mind of the party, which is collective and immortal. Whatever the party holds to be truth, is truth. It is impossible to see reality except by looking through the eyes of the Party.
"How can I help seeing what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four."
"Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane."

Shoot, Elliot beat me to it.

Man, I'd hate to imagine how bad the deficit would be if deficit reduction was a middle-level priority for the Dems.

She's a historic figure. She can lie without her lips moving.

Pace Skyler, I'm reminded of Darkness at Noon (no exact quote, sorry):

It is the duty of the party cadre to lie whenever necessary, and the first person he must lie to is himself.

Remember Obama's (plagiarized) "just words" speech? He meant it--liberals thinn words are actions. Say it's so and it is so. That's why Republicans suck--they refuse to speak the magical mantra that would make the world all puppies and kites on a sunny summer day.

Cutting federal employees salaries by a mere 10% would be a great deficit reducer, Nancy.

FLS is making some common sense.

I would say a budget cut TOWARDS the per capita military spending of other advanced nations would be better than saying we should shrink down to the military budget of a much smaller country like France or Costa Rica.

Add in legislatures finally putting courts in their place over judicial mandates that "force spending".
Bush's free prescription drugs.
Free school and medical care for illegals and their anchor baby spawn.
The private sector has ruthlessly cut and downsized since the 80s to get more efficient and competitive while government has only BLOATED.
I'd say that you do a 10% cut in all government Departments across the board. NOt a pure salary cut. If they can shed useless or low value people, they can elect to meet the 10% cut that way. BUt no one sacrosanct. Not welfare mommas entitlements, not outraged lawyers moaning about the "independence of the sacred judiciary", not cops belligerantly saying "surely you don't mean to punish the Heroes you owe everything to".

A federal pay cut would be better than nothing but what really needs to be done is to bring our retirement systems more into line with what you peons have. It's the pensions that are going to do most to kill the budget over the long run.

Its quite a relief that such a delusional, out-of-touch-with-reality politician has been removed from the line of presidential succession.

Now if she could just be removed from Congress altogether...

When a family has to cut their budget, it chooses what is essential and shitcans the rest.

In the case of the feds, we need defense, medicare, transportation, protection while social security plan should be revised so a portion is in individual accts and a portion is kept as is. That could make it solvent in the long run. The rest of the fed spending ca be shitcanned.

"Let's cut the defense budget to the size of France's."

One little problem: Do you think France is capable of defending themselves against any actual threat? No, not likely.

Defense is one of the enumerated powers for the Federal Government

Defense like Switzerland's: reliant on citizen soldiers defending their homeland -- that's the enumerated power. Plus a Navy, presumably to protect our shipping.

No mention of being the world's policeman. No mention of stationing troops around the world.

Ah yes, calling citizens out of their homes with their long guns. That'll work against today's threats.

Since her assuming power in 2006, hasn't something in the area of 5 TRILLION been added to the deficit?

Might I recommend defense like ISrael rather than Switzerland? Israel maintains a standing army but most served in the military and are reserves. They are required to do regular reserve duty to maintain their training. It means that they have a strong working force in place and a larger trained forced in reserve.

She's not delirious, delusional, or out-of-touch. She's intentionally lying.

For democrats, Good Intentions are all that matters. If she says she "prioritizes" deficit reduction, that's enough for her base.

... And the best part about this stupidity is that, even if they would have stuck to "pay as you go" that would only keep the deficit at the level it was when they assumed office. There is no way it could ever reduce the budget.

The Swiss model was copied by Singapore and Israel, and it works. Nobody attacks Switzerland or Singapore, as rich and tiny as they are. And Israel defends its own borders only.

"Defense like Switzerland's: reliant on citizen soldiers defending their homeland"

Switzerland's citizen army includes automatic weapons stored at home. It's quite odd to see lefties argue for that model while concurrently supporting those who demonize firearms [if they don't do it themselves].

Regardless, it's humorous to see what delusions lefties must convince themselves are true in order to justify their policy preferences.

former law student said...

Good thought. Israel actually helped Singapore structure and train its military. But, just as in Switzerland, the top manager you're speaking to is likely to be an officer in the military as well.

former law student said...

It's quite odd to see lefties argue for that model

Live by the Constitution, die by the Constitution.

What part of the Constitution authorizes repeal of health care reform, by the way?

test said...

"What part of the Constitution authorizes repeal of health care reform, by the way?"

Under what circumstance could congress both have the power to authorize something and also lack the power to change it? It either falls within their authority or not.

But again we see lefties grasping at straws to justify their policy preferences without understanding any of the principles involved.

Original Mike said...

"Nobody attacks Switzerland"

Nazi Germany didn't attack Switzerland because they didn't have to, not because they couldn't.

Scott M said...

What part authorizes individual mandates, FLS? And, if you find some wiki copy/paste to support it, where does that power to regulate economic inactivity stop?

And then what?

You understand whatever point you're trying to make has nothing to do with America, right?

Logic has never been FLS's strong suit.

Are you serious? Congress can repeal any law it passes.

Stop the hand-waving and answer the question.

I don't believe I will limit myself to the Parlor Pedant rules. When you are reduced to asserting that congress can create a program but cannot change it anyone with sense knows you've lost the debate. That you're going to persist in your ignorance doesn't bother me a bit.

Its pretty obvious that FLS is not a "former" law student, but rather a a "failed" law student.

The question I have is how someone with such poor civic knowledge and pathetic reasoning skills ever got into law school in the first place.
