How Pelosi handed the gavel to Boehner compared to how Boehner handed the gavel to Pelosi.

Byron York points out the difference.

One thing I noticed (and York doesn't mention) is that Pelosi made a snide remark about the size of the gavel Boehner picked out for the gavel-passing ritual:
I now pass this gavel, which is larger than most gavels here but the gavel of choice of Mr. Speaker Boehner…
Now, my ears have been tuned by decades of immersion in feminism and Freudianism, and I say that's an intentional reference to the phallus and the will toward domination it symbolizes. Nancy Pelosi intended to provoke disrespectful titters, I think — with deniability, of course.

Instead of calling Pelosi on her disrespect, comedian Jimmy Kimmel runs with the feminism and visualizes domestic* violence:

_________

* It's the House, so domestic is apt.

She's an awful, delusional woman (5 trillion added to the deficit under her watch and she thinks being a deficit hawk was a high priority) and history will judge her harshly.

The difference here is Pelosi's sanctimony. The left now argues that every issue is a re-enactment of the 1960s Civil Rights movement, and thus, something that only a bigot would dare to oppose.

This rhetoric is incredibly entrenched.

For instance, I went on a date with a woman who is am elementary school special ed teacher. (Yes, I went on a date.)

She proceeded to tell me that she was currently busy re-enacting the de-segregation of the Little Rock schools, but that her kids seemed completely uninterested.

I asked her: "That was over 50 years ago. What makes you think it has any relevance to your kids?"

Remember. These are special ed kids she's teaching.

The replaying ad nauseum of the Civil Rights movement has become an atrocity that pours shit on every discussion we have.

Even though I am a Baby Boomer, I've got to agree with the kids who say that it will be a blessing when the Boomers die out. Replaying the 60s and the Civil Rights movement has become a crushing bore and an intellectual nightmare.

Pelosi is a sanctimonious asshole. That has become the defining characteristic of the left in the past 50 years.

For a group which treats juvenile stupidity as a societal threat self identified feminists seem to engage in it quite often themselves. I think it comes from having to pretend little issues are important so much of the time. They're constantly seeking to validate their hype.

Turning the office over to Boehner gracefully was never in the cards, and was perhaps too much to expect. Lefty Dems think that the incoming Rep majority are unworthy of respect. Dems of that persuasion can't help themselves (a few usually show up here), which is partly why the voters decided that 4 years of them in charge was more than enough. Boehner, wisely, took no (public) notice and made no attempt to rub in the (obvious) fact that what Pelosi had just been lauding as her legacy was what the voters had soundly rejected.

Michael K said...

The interest of lefties in Boehner's tears is amusing. He has led an interesting lift BEFORE he became a politician, in contrast to the Nancys of the world. She was a mob daughter who married a millionaire. He ran a business and survived as one of 12 kids in a two bedroom house. I might tear up at such a time and after such a history.

Michael K said...

Sorry, that was life, not lift.

Of course, it was referring to his junk when she made that comment and she did it knowingly and there was even nervous (kind of unsure, belated, muted) laughter from people who recognized it. She is one nasty old woman.

I'm happy to see Nancy lose the top spot but sad to know that she'll keep getting reelected until she retires, dies, or San Francisco had a massive attack of sanity. However, the odds of that last one happening are about the same as winning the PowerBall while simultaneously being struck by lightning and eaten by a shark.

The games have begun to mesmerize Americans with subconscious symbols. Too bad for the Dems that Boehner is such a non-threatening guy. They will not succeed in making him appear as a Grench like Gingrich.

I expected her to do exactly what she did because she's a believer, she believes everything she helped ram down was the right thing to do and people like Boehner and anyone else that opposes it are either misguided or flat out evil and this was her way of telling the nation exactly that.

I just wish Boehner would just quit whipping out his hankie.

I don't think the Boehner needs to be whacked to cry. Which brings up the question of why so many male Republican leaders openly cry in public? I personally don't think it's particularly a big deal showing your tender side, displaying your emotions, your vulnerability. I think we should show more empathy and compassion to our brothers and sisters. Maybe this is a real turning point?

I don't know but I find it annoying. I also think when politicians do it its just theater and nothing more. Sorry but you can't make it that far in politics if your emotions can so easily be laid out on display.

I think we should show more empathy and compassion to our brothers and sisters.

Compassion is giving a hand up, not a hand out. Ensuring that Uncle Sam is going to be there for every misfortune that happens in your life doesn't create a productive citizen but a perpetual adolescent who knows that no matter how much he/she screws up, Mom and Dad will be there with the checkbook and spare room. Do you give your kids an allowance garage? If so do you require them to do anything for it or do you just slap a $20 in their hands and say have fun kids? That may be compassionate but it sure as hell ain't teaching them anything.

PS The Lefties made such a big thing about male sensitivity back in the 60s. you'd think they'd be happy. I get the feeling they think they're the ones who are going to be doing most of the crying. So far, Boehner isn't giving an inch (no pun).

Anyone who believes the feminist nonsense is a laughingstock to anyone with a brain. It that fits you, Ann, then what else needs to be said?

Feminists had good points about equal pay for equal work and the problems of harrassment in the workplace. However, the national feminists groups lost all credibility with giving Clinton "one free grope" because they supported his politics.
