"Well, given that we prize women for sex rather than childbearing nowadays..."

"... maybe it makes sense that women want to look at what’s supposed to be their sexual, rather than reproductive, peak — age 36!"

Glenn Reynolds makes a great point about the "zero face" article we were talking about yesterday.

Except both examples take away my sex drive.

Good point. Trophy wives are often around 36 when marrying a 50+ divorced man who can afford them. And life goes on.

Do women have reproductive peaks? Is there some span in her early thirties where she can fire them out every 7 to 10 weeks? Or is it just a lot easier to get preggers? I always thought it was more of a plateau.

As usual, ignoring what they look like on the inside.

Women from way way back were valued for sex, just was that the sex used to almost always result in child bearing (or at least getting pregnant, they did often die trying to give birth).

But pragmatic men, who lost wives, did look for widows who could take care of the home and domestic duties while they were out working. That was less about sex and more about partnership. And most of those women were 36 (I am sure) but probably looked older from years of hard outside work.

Women should reject that too. It makes them more disposable.

Is this Sarah Palin's fault? I'd want her to have my babies and she's hot as hell. My wife might object however. :D

Nobody informed Jennifer Aniston or the photo editor at Allure magazine about this trend, cause they seem determined to make her look to be about 14 years old

(and a 14 year old emotionally stunted at about the age of 8, on top of it)

you might survive your wife's objections, but I am not sure that you would survive her husband's. We do know that he has a gun or two, and is reasonably a good shot. I am not sure if I would want to find out how good.

WV - wagra - but the w looked like a "vi" until I looked closely. Just what you need for those trophy 36 year olds.

I dispute the premise, at least insofar as it's applied to the primal/pheromones level. Heterosexual men are hardwired to respond to apparent suitability for childbearing. And even if you think a cultural counter-trend could override that hard-wiring, consider just how much more ubiquitous exposed female belly flesh is today than it was 25, 50, or 100 years ago.

I definitely think that is the case of Lohan. Back when she was brunet/redhead and hadn't had all that plastic surgery, I thought that she was very sexually appealing. Now? I would run.

And, that is the reality here, that a woman who looks 26 is still going to beat out a woman looking 36, with comparable attributes, with many, if not most, males. We are just wired that way, since the 26 year old has more apparent breeding potential.

It may be true on both coasts, particularly in the Lefty enclaves, but the line about "it's still the same old story...", still applies everywhere else.

I may "prize" a woman, but certainly not women. Not after what I've seen on TV. Today "women" are simply public property.

(present company excluded, of course)

If Lindsay Lohan is an example of what younger women are trying to achieve then god help young women. Beucase Lohan looks like she's been crying for a week and hasn't slept in months. Her face is all puffy, like she was on prednisone.
Who wants to have sex with that?

We dont prize, evolution does to certain extent. Only human female has breast among primates. Because , they were need to call the attention of the male to the front after standing up. The more round the more attractive the less useful to breast-feeding.
The natural beauty concept: big hip( newborn wont kill the mother), cellulitis ( fertile) and round( same as hips)
But also young ( not 36 ) fresh then healthy and with a long reproductive life( in the african prairie more or less until 19 yo- life expectancy)
Modern concept of beauty was born with secure cesarean technique

Khmer Rouge used the term Year Zero:

The idea behind Year Zero is that all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and a new revolutionary culture must replace it, starting from scratch. All history of a nation or people before Year Zero is largely irrelevant, as it will (as an ideal) be purged and replaced from the ground up.

I understood the whole "sexual peak" stuff was about the ability or drive to orgasm, which is different from horniness.

I'm wondering what it means that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban wanted a baby. A baby biologically their own but they/she/he were too lazy, self-absorbed, busy, too pretty, narcissistic to actually go through a pregnancy. Plain weird in my book. No wonder celebrities kids are such freaks many times.

I have often found that people who spend so much time clinically discussing sex and attractiveness have neither.

I don't believe Lindsay Lohan has had plastic surgery...her physical transformation is just the accelerated physical decline of an emotionally damaged drug addict and alcoholic, a legacy from her fucked up parents, I'm sure, but not helped at all by the burden of premature fame, large paychecks, and sycophants eager to indulge her every whim while eating her alive psychically.

It's such a pity to see a young woman--any young woman--in such misery and rapid decline, but also such a waste in her case, as she has been quite an excellent actress.

Women--and men--are fooling themselves if they think middle age--and mid-30s is middle-age--is the sexual/physical peak for anyone.

After the late teens or very earliest 20s it's all downhill, baby.
