Wherever you go nowadays -- the Bauhaus.

Don't spill the coffee cream. It already looks slippery when wet.

Getting a higher Degree is a purpose. At least it used to be.

Is that the new Union South?

Sorry to bring something so stupid to your cafe.

"Is that the new Union South?"

It's the other building, on the other side of the street. The Discovery Center.

It certainly screams, "Student Union!!!".

And I've spent many an hour in such places.

This particular cafe looks purposely mobile - like when I get there it won't be in service.

edutcher: Memorial Union at UW Madison is a great place. Looks nothing like the picture. UW recently either renovated or completely re-built its second student union "Union South." I haven't seen it since, but I hope to be down that way in the next several months.

I'm not sure why they re-did Union South though.

Like many of the "cafés" on Althouse, this isn't really a café. And there's a lot of movable furniture in this place.

Did you know the French word for "furniture" means "movable"?

And IKEA is Swedish for 'crap.'

Union South is a nice building -- far better than the old one. But it's really cold inside it. It was a designated cooling spot during the last heat wave when the UW was having trouble with chilled water. They weren't kidding around with that! Brrr!

Hey if you rearranged the chairs it would be like Robert Cook had a new thought. Just sayn'

The red chair photo is currently unavailable. At least for me.

Those French, they have an excuse for everything.

Why are my movables on the sidewalk!

Patrick said...

Where I come from, we call them "Freedom Movables."

Why isn't the photo available?

You skipped the water falls/zen decor which helps calm the the mind while adding costs, but do like the Ruben sandwich they serve for lunch.

Yeah....I can't see the picture either.

I think Robert Cook took it.

I had to click on the big empty white square, and I saw it on Flickr.

I see lots of hard surfaces. I'll bet you could wash that place down with a fire hose, and clean it with a squeegee.

The White House tweeted a Rick Roll, and I cannot believe someone there didn't have the edit function to realize this is not funny.

Is this a joke?

The Dude said...

Is the message that the Obama administration has Rick rolled the nation?

madAsHell said...

I followed the link to YouTube.

The interstitial advertisement was a woman from the future. Her message said "The people that loaned us all the money now own us. You will be slave labor. Don't let them raise the debt limit."

Too funny...even their tweets fail!!

Similar word in German. A furnished apartment is said to be möbliert.

That doesn't mean mobilized in the militaristic way.

I can't see the photo either.

I could see the photo, but I redid the photo code.

Sometimes Flickr changes the code number.

Today was a lucky day. The air conditioning stopped, but the HVAC man was able to come immediately. He determined that what we really needed was an electrician, and the electrician was able to come immediately. The electrician needed the help of the power company, and they too were able to come immediately.

All is restored.

Hurrah!

I like both of the buildings mentioned in this thread. The new Union South is really nice, though the food is pretty expensive for what it is (not surprising). The Institute for Discovery is amazing. I love all the fountains and I especially like the area where you can check your email in a mini forest. Pretty nice atmosphere, very relaxing. I've also heard that their restaurant has good food.

Metaphor is Greek for moving van, I have been told, suggesting that's its literal use, and any other would be metaphoric.

A traveller, judging from airport signs, said that it means luggage carrousel.

A modern Greek is needed to clear this up.

Sounds like the HVAC guy showed up, saw Freeman, and called his friend the electrician. The electrician showed up, saw Freeman, and called his friend at the utility. Freeman gets her AC back on. Win-win-win-win
