"I let my mind wander, watching my cigarette's ember eat to my fingertips."

That Isthmus article we were talking about when it came out on paper last week is now on line.

I thought you should know. In case you needed to brood. About Wisconsin.

And everything.

I love that what validates the dear boy's angst is the fact that he spent 4 years in the Peace Corps. Really.
I do admire his effort, but I'd wonder how he'd interpret a 4 year veteran of the Marines speaking in "white hot" favor of Walker. Wouldn't he also have the validity of being "alienated"?
Riding that manure spreader on the back 40...

Like Chris Matthews he can mention it every goddam day for the rest of his life.

Pathetic. Laced with falsities and bias. It really shows the hubris and selfishness of public union workers. Every member of the GOP should have this read aloud at every campaign stop.

"The Republicans' incendiary language has been striking."

Really?

Pathetic.

Peace Corps tour length is two years, not four

What the film "Clueless" calls the "post-adolescent *i-de-al-istic phase" is in major attenuation with this kid.

Then again, that goes for most journalists, and he's got the journalese cant down pretty pat.

"In Madison, the epicenter of activism against Walker, the realization that the governor won't recalibrate his views has been devastating."

This is the best paragraph I've read all year.

I think this kid's mind has been wandering way too much.

Without adult supervision.

I this is the guy who inspired the T-shirt, "Out of my mind. Back in 5 minutes".

I returned from abroad to find political opponents at each other's throats

The last four words of this complaint are only there for show.

One does not need to go to Cambodia and back to observe the Walker affect on Madison. The other day I went to buy a pair of sandals at Morgan Shoes and expressed concern over the price to the clerk, mentioning that I will take a considerable salary cut in the fall and have to judge every expense. He replied that he didn't think much about the protests, until the eight orders he had to make stain glass windows-- he is a small business owner as well--were all canceled because his clients were worried about their future income. It seems a hard line has been drawn between between Walker supporters and protestors, and I suspect it will only grow deeper when other small business owners discover just how much it will cost them.

He sounds like a college freshman returning to his hometown after a semester, and finding that Nothing's the Same. It's called growing up. It gets us all, eventually.

I was struck bu one of his quotes:

"I personally have never seen [politics] this personalized," said longtime Madison Magazine columnist John Roach, who has become openly disillusioned by the disharmony in Madison. "The question was: Do you have someone who could handle the [budget] shortfall artfully? I hoped Walker would be a surgeon and not a butcher, and he's proven himself to be the latter."

Handle the budget artfully? The columnist problem with Walker is that Walker did his budget without ulterior motives and lying?

R-V: would be curious to know what percentage salary cut you consider serious? I had zero income a couple years running during the early days of the recession. I am having a very good year now. But what percentage is serious enough to discuss with a shoe salesman? It would never cross my mind to mention such a thing to a clerk.
