What a "very frank and candid exchange of ideas" actually looks like.

The quote is from Boehner, whom you can see in this twitpic from Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz:

Will they ever see eye to eye? Unlikely!

The Constitution requires that the President have greater elevation and flags.

Meaningful meetings where stuff actually gets done is hard.

As a result, Obama won't do many more of them.

Less than regal surroundings for POTUS at a non-campaign event. And no presidential seal on the podium!

He is a humble man.

Remember,

Boehner’s aides were put off by what they saw as Obama’s lecturing style

And,

As told by McCarthy, Obama then said that if Republicans are going to get entitlement reform, “You need me.” As McCarthy walked away, the congressman thought: “He’s still a law professor. He’d rather lecture you and put a red mark on your paper than talk to you.”

The terrible effects of the sequester:

They had to lay off the guy who carries the teleprompter to the front of the room.

He’s still a law professor.

As has been pointed out before, he never was a law professor.

I wonder who is missing from the chair.

I'd like to see how Obama handles that glass of water.

Of course O is standing at a lectern. No need to actually meet face to face! What a dick!

Finally figured out what this photo is missing. Obama needs to get himself one of those South American generalisimo's uniforms.

I find myself cheered by the ordinariness of the conference room and its fixtures.

Just out of shot to the left: a lectern twice as tall, from which Michelle is instructing Barack to straighten his tie.

Now THAT'S how you take a sip of water, Marco.

You know....if you are actually planning to meet WITH other people, try to discuss things, get some work done, I would suggest that you actually sit down WITH them, instead of lording over everyone with a podium between you and those you are supposed to be meeting WITH.

Obama is such a dick.

His petulance is chiseled onto his face. A very unlovely trait, petulance.

I picture Obama bringing his podium and teleprompter everywhere - like at home everyone's else is sitting in chairs around the dinner table but he's got his podium and he's reading from the prompter "So Natasha, how was your day?"

Obama is such a dick.

Not just a dick, but an insecure dick. They're the worst kind.

This is theater for Obama. He's doing this for PR and after its all said and done he will come back and claim the evil GOP won't let me raise a $1 trillion in new taxes so we can continue our spending death spiral.

That's not even good law professing.

Ignorance is Bliss said...

Yeah, with the good law professing, they talk to you then put the red mark on your paper.

Everybody's looking toward the clock.

Not a good sign.

King Arthur met with his partners at the round table. Obama met with his students at the lectern.

They're lucky. I would have brought an airsickness bag.

@ Althouse

"That's not even good law professing."

I do not recollect anybody -ever- making the claim he was good at it.

Obama's idea of an "exchange of ideas" is that he lectures an audience and they exchange their wrongheaded, racist ideas for his sane and sensible ones.

If you want to go north, and I want to go west, we can compromise and head off to the northwest.
If you want to go north, and I want to go south, then it is just a zero-sum tug-of-war with one winning and the other losing, or a stalemate.
Anyway, no progress.

They all look like people having a good time don't they?
Why would anyone want that job enough to campaign for it?

David said...

Definitely worth 1000 words.

Michael K said...

Maybe they could have a real exchange of ideas after the 2014 election, and only if the GOP takes the Senate and keeps the House.

Until then, this is full campaign mode. I just hope they are smart enough to realize this.

Allan Drury's "A Senate Journal" plus "Advice and Consent" should be required reading.

Yeah. I don't think Obama's going to see eye to eye on that whole, "Let's make him a failed, one-term president" thing.

It's almost like there's something wrong with him... as if he's evil, in fact.

I think one recently became available.

It's almost a bitch-slap that there is an ordinary folding long table set up without even a tablecloth on it. You can practically see the gum just past the edge on the underside of the table.
