Unfortunately it was no secret.

The first rule of government club. Don't talk about government club. The second rule...

The funniest part of it all is that its not necessary for the journalists to run their questions by the white house "officially" when the vast majority of journalists covering the white house love and protect obama.

Those journalistos are more than delighted to toe the unofficial white house line.

Its been that for about 60 years now.

Isn't there usually an off-camera "gaggle" in the morning?

Anyhow, now we know exactly how the press and the White House interrelate and plus we got to see how the truth gets crushed out if someone accidentally says what's going on.

Useful info.

The TPM story ends with the following:

This post has been updated.

Another typo. They meant "This past has been updated."

Stupid levels of paranoia here.

This being said, if I wanted to get a sensible answer on something requiring some level of depth in understanding I could imaging giving the guy a heads-up. It must be a very hard gig having to speak off the top of your head on literally every aspect of government. Most answers are going to canned and not particularly informative.

What ARM just said is what I suspect is going on.

When these people are not sleeping with each other they might be expecting a gig with an upcoming administrations. Or if not, some form of quid pro quo in exchange for access.

(I was listening to Rush today)

I'm pretty sure that in most press conferences a certain number of questions are planted. I don't think this varies with party affiliation. However, if you're a Dem, the press room is planted with ferns whose major purpose is to provide shade from the harsh light.

Help me out: didn't this happen before? A journalist revealed something not-so-nice about the administration, then retracted it later.

What the hell is wrong with the United States of America? Pathetic.

Interesting listening to Dana Perino, who had Carney's job under GW Bush. She thought that her job was to know what was going on in the govt. so that she wasn't surprised. This came up with a lot of the scandals where Carney played stupid, and her point that a good WH Press Secretary would have known what was going on, and if she/he didn't, then heads would roll in their staff. She saw her job as not being surprised esp. by anything that might make the evening news. In particular, I think that she thought that she and her staff would have been ahead of the press on Benghazi and the IRS scandal.

Sure, there is a bit of gotcha, but a lot less with this WH Press Corps that goes out of its way to protect the President.

Honestly, I just assumed the questions were always prevetted by the nature of the event. Those kinds of things are ALWAYS scripted; I wasn't even shocked by the pseudo, now-redacted, revelation.
