And here comes the plow guys to charge me $70 to scrape my driveway of 1/2" of snow. I wish I could contract them to plow only if it's over 4" or so, but they don't do that.

I find myself hoping that when it snows it snows a lot, so I get my money's worth.

Please don't rub it in. Up here in St. Paul, we typically get about two more weeks of winter (and several degrees colder most days), and fewer thaws, than Madison. I used to like winter, but with the years going by, not so much.

It strikes me, with all the articles about "grubering" (lying) to the American People about Obamacare, that the American People were only a secondary target. "The People" do not get to vote; our Representatives and Senators do, and in this case the important ones were the Democratic ones, since the Republicans were uniformly against it from day one, but it did not matter, since they were in the minority in both Houses.

Longwinded, but the primary target of the deceptive practices obviously were the Representatives and Senators of the President's own party.

who were never shown the bill they were told to vote "yes" on.

Yep.. .. and 'now, Gruber, whom are you calling stupid?' At the very least, they turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to learn more.

And, I don't know how many of you saw video of Obama saying the Clintons did it all wrong, doing it behind closed doors, (what chutzpah) and He did it in the open by lying and deception.

It also strikes me that, if the President proceeds to "legalize" this, that, and the other by Executive Orders, all this will be "legalized*" with an asterisk, since these orders obviously can be rescinded or over-ruled by the next President, and in controversial matters are almost certain to be over-ruled by legislation and signed into law by the next President of the opposing party.

The long-term consequences are not likely to be beneficial for the stated purposes of Executiv Orders issued in this fashion.

Plus the general confusion that reigns about "immigration" and all related matters (which are legion).

How in the world are the officers and employees of the various agencies involved supposed to keep track of which "laws" or "orders" they are supposed to enforce, or not to enforce, when, where, how, and under what circumstances?

What will their views become of the society which they are supposed to serve?

People are going about Gruber the wrong way. Voters are not stupid but they 'trust' the people they vote for to do the right thing (by which I mean at least not be so corrupt as to take advantage of them). Respect and trust are first world characteristics. Obama administration is full of corrupt people with third world attitude. Gruber is one such.

The pleasures of cold winters and Democrats in charge are being denied to Wisconsin but New Hampshire is getting the benefit of Democrats in charge.

As temperatures drop and residents reach for the thermostat, consumers, business owners and energy experts are all asking the same question: was the long, cold - and expensive - winter of 2013-2014 a prelude to even more difficult energy times to come?
New England's reliance on natural gas, following a decades-long campaign to cut the region's dependence on coal and oil, leads many to believe the cost of electricity will continue to rise.

Never fear. The Democrats will demand that the wind blow and the sun shine 24 hours a day until the crisis is past.

"The alleged crisis is overstated," said Kate Epsen, executive director of the New Hampshire Sustainable Energy Association. "It is a challenge, not a crisis. High prices are a serious economic challenge to businesses and individuals, but these high prices send market signal - albeit delayed and regulated - to invest in new generation, and/or to use less energy."

Nothing to see here. Mov along.

We are at a really interesting time in history with a lot of transition between old and new technologies and ways of thinking about how we live and our expectations.

Vote for Democrats and you have "a really interesting time."

Cold and dark.

Husband was out shoveling our walks and the neighbor guy's adult son came by to plow his dad's driveway -stopped by and did ours, and a few other neighbors'. Nice guy - both of them.

MadisonMan said...

Easy to shovel, and it came up cleanly, even where people had walked. I like snow like that.

The guy was nice, yes. But a plow for an inch of snow is a ridiculous waste of money.

I say that as someone with a horrifically long driveway too.

Did you see Ezra Klein's defense of Gruber? Ezra says that Gruber was frustrated that the way Washington gets a bill passed is to trick the CBO and fool the American voters. In this line of thinking Gruber is a a good guy--almost a whistleblower!

I guess there is a silver lining to everything. Thanks, Gruber, for showing us that trickery and lying are now part of how a bill becomes a law. I can't wait for the updates to high school textbooks so the next generation of voters can understand the country they will inherit from us baby boomers.

That's some grimly hilarious spin going on there. I can imagine some Pollyanna-ish Romano-Briton mouthing those words watching the last of the Roman troops retreat across the Channel.

Watched the noon re-run of Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace hammering the Republican politicians about whether they are "prepared to shut down the U.S. Government again to fight Obama over this."

It strikes me that there is no emergency and no need to hyper-ventilate about this (or Obamacare, or insert whatever else is being contended).

The Republicans can simply let it all pass with a note that as of February 2017 it will be a new world, and all these things will be either repealed or drastically changed, so take your own precautions as to what you sign up for.

They can prepare and pass legislation setting forth their own programs to solve the problems and let Obama decide whether to veto them or not, but they will be on record with something.

If such legislation in fact is good, there is a small chance that enough Democratic rank and file members of Congress will be pissed off enough for having been "grubered" and left to face the consequences, that they will peel off, and some vetoes on individual pieces of legislation might be over-ridden. Probably not, but grab some popcorn; the intra-party quarrelling could get interesting.
