"Wednesday Addams would have killed these men. It would have been a horrible, comical double murder. But murder nonetheless."

"She wouldn't waste that much time talking. She'd burn their house down."/"And end their suffering so soon? Doesn't sound like the Wednesday I know."/"Classic Addams are more about slow torture than quick killing."

Comments at a HuffPo/Women piece titled "How Wednesday Addams Would React To Catcalling."

How grim it must be to have the assignment to crank out one pop-culture feminist item after another. The mind turns to dark places.

ADDED: I should say that I did not watch the video, which could possibly be funny in a way that doesn't require us to laugh at torture and murder.  Metafilter has some background about the actress in the video and the Metafilter folk seem quite enthused about her grown-up Wednesday routine.

UPDATE: I've watched it, and I don't think it was particularly good or funny.

Haven't you ever read the comments on blogs/web sites that discuss women abusing men? Fully a third of the comments will be from the school of "Yeah, I hit my man, too. He was such a pussy that I could beat him up & get away with it. He always deserved it."

Feminism is at root about the denial of just how evil women can be.

The really really weird thing is that Wednesday Addams is a child.

Why not Peggy Lipton on Mod Squad or someone of age's fake reaction to hypothetical catcalls?

Jeez.

Did you ever watch "The Adams Family"? Or any of the movies they made from that classic TV series? Because they were always turning to "dark places" and laughing about it.

Reminds me when I was visiting DC in 73. Had some older sisters working there and one of em got me to go marching with her. I'd a done anything for her. I think it was one of the ERA marches, from Dupont down Conneticuut to some small park. It was across the street from the building with the payphone kiosks where I think the 10 grand in the paper bag was stashed, the money for the Cubans, you know, I'd used one of those phones once and I've always wondered what I'd do if I'd a found the money. Anyway, back in the park 2 hippie chick sorta girls were sitting on some concrete marker and a hippie guy leaps on to sit next to them and one of em pops, pushes him off and says hey this is our day! Looked like he mighta gotten a welt which is a kind of strawberry statement.

We better not take Girl Scout Cookies for granted anymore. Test them for arsenic before eating.

Wednesday Addams would be a atrong, confident woman who wouldn't give a shit what the men were saying, and wouldn't spend a second thinking about them.

The conceit of the series, though, is imagining that character as an adult. The cat calling reaction example is just one episode. Here is Adult Wednesday Adams: One-Night Stand

Having cleared that up, yeah, this whole "tee-hee, torture and murder are funny to imagine when the victims are piggish men" doesn't fit too well with the "anything resembling a rape joke (by someone we don't like) should be punished with the fullest social sanction possible (including threats to one's job, etc)," but I guess it'd be foolish to expect consistency from people who congratulate themselves on their own enlightened embrace of equality.

Not very funny. Not very creative. It doesn't take much to hijack someone else's work and destroy it with the message of the day.

Me too. Me either. And the actress better not quit her day job.

Funny feminism --- now that's a concept!

It's all about vengeance & come-uppance, not "funny". Unless, in the same spirit, you think that phrases like "Fuck all, I'm gonna fuck you fuckers right up!" is somehow funny. Some people think that raw displays of spleen are funny, but I'm not one of them.

Wednesday Addams?

So does that mean if a woman disses a man or cat calls him does he get to become a Hannabal Lecter?

You know, go after free ranging rude.

What she said was not funny.

She needed men to get her revenge. So she thinks men are good for something.

Yeah, the catcalling one is actually the worst of the series.

Wednesday Addams would respond with a dry remark that totally misses the emotional aspect of catcalling. She would not burn down anybody's house unless it was nearby. Too much planning otherwise--the catcall is so insignificant that she would have forgotten about it within seconds. If she was a feminist at all, it would have been in the true sense of the word, which has nothing to do with how it is used in our society today.

I actually had seen this youtube series before. This episode is from the second season. Some of the other episodes are better, when not going overtly feminazi.

All told, not bad for an indie web series.

I saw the One Night Stand video, I didn't realize this was from the same thing. So an adult Wednesday Addams, then. Ok. Fine. I agree with Gahrie, though.

Wednesday would likely have borroed one of Pugsley" explosive laden trains to run by the men and take them out.

They're really committing to this "catcalling is a thing that actually happens outside of cartoons" bit.

It must be like acting in porn. After awhile it deadens the sensibilities.

Just the logical endpoint of the bonfire of man hatred started by the likes of Andrea Dworkin et al. After ten years it isn't funny at all, is it, Prof.?

you can never rely on women for good or funny. They just don't get it. Still, I'm not going to watch it either.
