"No one else could make this work, and there will be plenty of people who say she should be listed among those who tried and failed..."

"... but this, to us, is the essence of Tildaism."

Top-rated comment: "David Bowie may be gone but hopefully we'll always have St. Tilda."

David Byrne already did that in 'Stop Making Sense'

Remember Hillary's giant-gaping-collar costume?

I demanded an explanation and Tilda gives the explanation.

It's something that can be done, but possibly only by Tilda Swinton.

I think Tilda has Plantagenet ancestry; if so, it shows.

Well, I'm glad to know the space aliens are friendly.

It is reminiscent of Bowie's costume in the "Ashes to Ashes" video. Or maybe that chick from the capitol city in Hunger Games.

A woman dressed as a man dressed as a woman? Was this a costume ball, or something of the sort?

I'm sorry I have no idea who Tilda is and I won't Google her/him.

Maybe a statement on androgyny?

Well, since politics is driving the blogstress to videos (possibly cat videos by the time of the final debates), I nominate Joan Jett's Androgynous:

I suppose the Bowie mention warrants a link to The Stars (Are Out Tonight)

Definitely kindred spirits, those two.

As for the outfit, it doesn't work on anyone. Not even Tilda Swinton. The thing is that Tilda, like Bowie, is simply outside of the rules. If you're Bowie, then you can paint your face and wear an eye patch. If you're Tilda, you can wear... that thing.

Hard to say why, but that's how it is.

Are you kidding? That Ming the Merciless look gave me much mirth for months!

I agree with the doubters; that doesn't work, even on Tilda Swinton, who I typically adore.

Looks like doll clothes on her.

They were not, as some people claimed, the same person. Unless David metaphorically killed off Bowie in order to just be Tilda all the time. It's exhausting to have two families.
