Spam.

I'd been ignoring the spam filter in the last week. Thanks to the reader who emailed about missing posts because there were lots of things that got snagged that needed to be released, which I just did.

So... if you've been thinking we were deleting your comments for some mysterious reason, you were probably in amongst the many things caught in the filter.

I'd had a bad GERD attack over the weekend and the ensuing treatment, including some morphine for the pain (you have to live through it to believe it), left me a little zapped for a couple of days and I'd noticed a couple of comments I thought I'd posted weren't there.

OK, so I'm not crazy (or wasted), after all. Now I can concentrate on my known neuroses.

In each case is it apparent where the poster went wrong? Anon perhaps get algorithmically tagged as possible spam whereas something starting out like

Hello. I like your blog. I've been following what you do here and see that you offer a unique place within the world wide web. Here are some craptastic >link< shoes and some fake designer bags made of imitation materials by free slaves in distant lands. Cheers have a nice day.

I can't figure out how the spam filter thinks, but it does catch a lot of real spam.

I think including a hot link in your comment makes it much more likely to get snagged, which is a shame, since you're taking trouble to make things easier for others, but obviously, that's what real spam does, trying to attract people elsewhere.

When I saw the title I thought, oh, here we go again, try as you might you are not going to get anything great out of SPAM that isn't already better with any other ham product available. So why bother? Honestly, why? I don't care if it's big in Hawaii for historic reasons that is irrelevant to us here today.

I wonder if the spam filter will identify Spam as Spam?

Last week before the Mega lotto, I wrote a 20 word comment, which besides being inspiring and insightful, also included an encoded version of all the data on my hard drive including the wining lotto number. I thought it would be safe here, since I cancelled by Rush hating Carbonite account.

I'm now $640 million poorer because of a spam filter. Nice. I was going to spend it all through the Amazon portal, so that's what you get for examining the constitutionality of forced broccoli instead of tending the spam. One man's trash is another man's $640 million.
