Sonia Sotomayor and Rita Moreno — on stage together for 90 minutes.

One's a 58-year-old Supreme Court Justice, the other's the 81-year-old actress who was in "West Side Story," but put them together and you've got 2 Latinas. It's a show! Maybe we can find some federal judge with Greek ancestry to do a show with George Chakiris....

He's dreamy. And only 78.

What do you ask them? George, how did you get your hair to look so great? Were you really one of the dancers in Marilyn Monroe's "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" routine? What did you and Marilyn gossip about?

Oh, but wait. That's not the show. The show is Sonia and Rita!
“I’m a raucous Puerto Rican!” she told the room. “I like to sing, I like to dance, I like to drink, I like to get buzzed.”
Guess which she? Hint: She had sex with Marlon Brando.

The press/media wing of Democrats has to keep feeding the beast.

Here's Bob Hope introducing Shirley Jones who announces that the Best Supporting Performance by an Actor Oscar goes to George Chakiris, who doesn't want to say too much, just "thank you, thank you."

He beats Montgomery Clift, Peter Falk, George C. Scott (the other George), and — of all people — Jackie Gleason.

Yes, but of what?

Hint: hint.

Shibboleths:
* surprisingly candid
* Latina
* pioneers
* audience screaming with laughter
* and shouting with solidarity

The horror, the horror.

Some people will pay to see anything.

You'd make a vivacious SCOTUS justice. Am I close?

"Shouting with solidarity"
Was this a rally?
Love the clip. I wonder what the happy people at The Fashion Police would have to say about poor Shirley Jones hair.

I thought you were suggesting jealousy over the sex with Brando.

As I've said over and over again on this blog, I do not have judicial temperament and I would hate to have to pretend to. And I hate group projects, so these appellate panel situations would irk me no end. Not that I could be a trial judge. I've seen trials. They are, by necessity, very boring.

Sotomayor asserting that “it’s only the people you love that hurt you, because the others ‘que te importa.’”.

translation ‘what is it to you?’.

I interpret that as the people that didn't vote for her (conservatives?) mean nothing to her.

For someone with a keen nose for finding things that might have a whiff of discrimination...

The Supreme is not herself outside the building.

Sometimes, Sotomayor told the audience, if you are intimidated by a task at hand, play it like a role — pretend to be someone you admire. “To be successful in life, you have to ‘play’ more than you are,” she said.

I am always puzzled by people who spend their night out attending some schlock political event (which is to say, any political event).

I steer a wide berth around anything that has the slightest whiff of politics attached to it when I go out. That's not easy here in the Northeast, where artists can't keep their mouths shut about politics.

I've been known to get up and walk out when some idiot begins pontificating, too.

Not sure about George being in the "Diamonds" dance routine, but he was definitely in the modernish routine at the end of "White Christmas" with Rosy Clooney.

And, why is it sassy courage when some idiot woman brags about some man she's fucked?

If a man does that shit, he just an overbearing macho pig.

There once were two latinas,
One saucy, the other one wise
The saucy one bragged
She and Brando once shagged
The wise one just rolled her eyes.

If latinas were really that wise then why are Spanish speaking countries so completely and utterly fucked up beyond all belief?

What's next Ruth Ginsburg and Linda Richman?

The Great One was up for "The Hustler".

He was a good comedic actor; after all, he made Ralph Kramden believable for 20 years.

Clearly it's working. She looks great.

I'll pass. I'm holding my ticket money for "Sonia Sotomayor and Charo".

Those hot Latino babes are lusty wenches, everyone hot one of them. They just cannot act cool and taciturn like us Nordics pretend to be.

It must be a Mediterranean vice. Catholic/Orthodox Mediterranean women are great people. The movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was a true story for those of us who have known both cultures.

Those lusty wenches will never make good Presbyterians, but who cares if they can procreate with such a good attitude towards men.

Charo is a Spaniard.

Who plays excellent guitar, BTW.

She's still performing, too. She was on a cruise The Blonde and I took a few years ago.

Peter Noone, too.

Who also does a pretty good show.

Irish emigration reached its peak not during the famine years but during the 1950's. What was unique about Irish emigration was that about as many women as men emigrated. In other countries, men emigrate at twice to four times the rate as women. The Irish government commissioned a study on this. The study discovered that when Irish women emigrated to foreign lands they felt themselves empowered in their new homes. The recommendation of the commission (which was not enacted) was that Irish women not be allowed to emigrate.......The wise Latinas might want to consider that their stupendous grandeur as human beings is not just a function of their Hispanic heritage but of the relative freedom and opportunity that an Anglo culture gives to women.
