"Former president Bill Clinton had a private telephone conversation in late spring with Donald Trump at the same time that the billionaire investor and reality-television star was nearing a decision to run for the White House..."

"... according to associates of both men. Four Trump allies and one Clinton associate familiar with the exchange said that Clinton encouraged Trump’s efforts to play a larger role in the Republican Party and offered his own views of the political landscape."

Bill Clinton is a political advisory to Donald Trump? I wonder whether that will come out tomorrow night in the debate?

I know (97% confidence level) Jeb Bush will not be the nominee on the Republican side. More and more it's looking like Hillary Clinton won't be the nominee on the other side, either. So it looks like those Mega-Donors chose poorly.

The same people funding the toadie candidates from each side is no surprise.

The Trump story is such great conspiracy fodder. I think Facebook just wet itself in anticipation of all the traffic coming from this story.

Interesting to speculate. Maybe Bill thinks Hillary is such a lousy candidate that he'd rather have The Donald.

You never know which set of political vermin will win the election. So if you're a corporate player, you fund both.

@Michael K, I'm inclined to believe that neither Barack Obama nor William Jefferson Clinton think that Hillary Clinton would make a good President.

The only time I ever gave money to a pol my wife and I both maxed out to both candidates for governor. Our son was in HS at the time and thinking he wanted to go to the AF Academy. We thought we might need a friend in the governor's office.

Trump has been honest. "I gave money to both sides. I have to, I am a businessman. I need whoever wins to be nice to me."

that was on Anderson Cooper a couple weeks back.

Quite right. Don't give to one side and when they win you will find all sorts of roadblocks on your projects.

Saying that he wanted them to be "nice" to him was just a polite way of saying "I am paying protection money." as I heard it.

As for Clinton, the talk had been that Trump was trying to get Hilary! elected. He has been speaking out pretty forcefully about her the past week or so. He came close to saying that she should be in jail.

So maybe not.

Go Bill! Trump is great for the Republican AND the Democratic Party. He is taking the GOP to its comical extreme.

Let us go with someone who does not answer to those mega donors!

We are supposed to hate Trump now by association, right?

Sometimes these media folks use a hammer and call it a nudge.

Anyone who trusts the media enough to believe in the words of unnamed sources is a fool.

Says the satisfied Obama supporter. What does it take to teach you the disaster that Obama has been ?

Maybe this will do it.

Have fun in post-Obama world.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful triumph for democracy if, on the part of the Republicans, or Democrats, or both, the dogs just refuse to eat the dog food?

Personally I think Trump is a used car salesman.

He will say what he thinks will play on the Republican landscape.

Dollar Bill Clinton? Oh, he just showed him the ropes of 'triangulation'.

I don't want Trump. Never held political office, never been in the military. So what's his big skill, selling?

No, he is a used car salesman. And he is gonna sell you a clunker.

Paul, Trump is a New York developer. That means his skill set is persuading politicians to do favors for him, usually things they ought to let anyone do. Trump's wealth is a purely political creation, and bears the same relationship to honest business as the Clinton's wealth.

None of this is surprising. Big donors often give to both parties, to hedge their bets. Hillary and Jeb both in the hands of corporate bigwigs? How shocking!

And Trump's long been close with the Clintons. Does anyone think for a minute that Bill and Hillary aren't pleased as punch about his candidacy? If so I have a bridge to sell you.
