"You’ve shot so many of your films here in Europe and yet in the U.S. you haven’t even been convicted of rape."

Rape joke cracked at the expense of Woody Allen (and Roman Polanski) at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

I lived about 12 miles from Cannes for 5 months, so I'm pretty k3wL.

Here's something far more important than a pointless French joke:
Ozzy Osbourne’s Not Missing

Polanski though actually committed the rape and fled justice. Allen was accused long after the fact, and was never charged. Is it possible Allen committed rape? Sure, but that's by no means a given.

Even more important than Ozzy not missing:
Today is "National Root Canal Appreciation Day"

Rape is no laughing matter. Unless you're raping a clown.

Nor has he been convicted of rape rape.

That's a joke?

Polanski pled guilty to unlawful sex with a minor, otherwise known as statutory rape. His victim was a 13 year old girl. He fled the US when he learned the judge was likely to reject probation. Joke if you wish, but that was actual rape rape to which he pled guilty, and with a minor who was unable to give consent.

Perhaps it was funny in French.

I'd like to see, legal issues aside, how Roman would be received on an American campus.

"Ozzy Osbourne's Not Missing."

In a world where Glen Beck's prayer and fasting cannot deliver Indiana to Ted Cruz, its good to know that the Oz-man will be "honoring his commitments" (marital vows aside). Perhaps Beck needs to consider which Sabbath he should be keeping.

It's funny because it's rape.

Ahh, the French. They love Jerry Lewis films, too, for his comedic and film genius, right?

"Vous avez tourné beaucoup de vos films ici en Europe et encore aux États-Unis n'ont pas encore été reconnu coupable de viol."

I guess not.

...but not "rape-rape": "Whoopie Goldberg Explaining Roman Polanski Child Rape wasn't Legitimate Rape" (the dumb quote is in the first few seconds...)

"Ozzy Osbourne reportedly living a double life" (he's also Jean-Marie Le Pen).

OK, I don't speak, read or write French. But it is just as funny as in English.

Child molestation as humor. Wonderful.

Good timing, this CNN article on Woody the child molester:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/11/entertainment/ronan-farrow-woody-allen-thr/

And the previous comment is interesting. I wonder how Woody the auteur would be welcomed on the average college campus these days. Really.
