Very nice graphic presentation of varied political opinion by the Washington Post.

"What young America wants/On Inauguration Day, we asked those ages 18 to 35 who flooded the nation’s capital in support — and in protest — of the new president what their hopes were for the next four years."

You probably don't have a subscription. I don't have a subscription because, unlike the NYT, the Washington Post doesn't let subscribers get URLs that will work for nonsubscribers. But the page at the link I am giving you is so nicely done that you might want to open up a private window to get in.

There's a single page to scroll down, with 2 side-by-side pictures filling each screen, excellent photographs of different 18-to-35-year-olds, and as your cursor hits a picture the person's voice plays a succinct statement. When you move the cursor away the recording stops.

The design work is credited to Jake Crump.

One person's nice graphic presentation is another person's obnoxious gimmick.

It is an excellent presentation. Having voiceover play as you scroll over an image is one of the first useful applications of HTML5 I've seen.

They did a fine job curating the participants. It would be interesting to learn how many they rejected.

Add 'The Buffet Line' to IRS forms.

I don't have a subscription and I accessed the page. Not that impressed.

The anti-Trumpetts remind me of myself when I was that age.
The rest make me envious of what I could have accomplished if I had wised up sooner.

I didn't need the audio, to figure out who didn't vote for Trump. No problem accessing the article without a subscription.

It's not a graphic presentation of the varied political opinion...it's an audio presentation.

Agreed, except, coming from a museum family: Curating :: Museums, Editing :: Newspapers.

"Curating" is taking over everything that has to do with choosing.

Did that WaPo piece intend to make most if not all the leftists seem like absolute weirdos in comparison to the Trump supporters?

Written words convey thoughts and ideas. Sounds and images convey impressions and feelings.

The medium is not, in fact, the message. But some media are better suited to some messages.

Does the medium of three consecutive comments constitute "a lot of extra line breaks"?

Anyway, good point about who was selecting the subjects.
I suspect a conservative mole in the WaPo.

The Trumpists seem like the salt-of-the-earth American peasantry, the proper inhabitants of a bucolic landscape, that shall of course be great again in their responsible hands.

The other side seem like residents of a carnival uninterested in amusing its patrons.

I just had this crazy idea! Concatenate all the audio together, then synchronize the images to it so they change when the speaker changes....and, rather than just one picture per speaker, maybe even have several pictures of each as he's speaking. You could even "capture" the speech and put it in writing on the bottom of the pictures!

I think I'll call it a "moo vee" with optional "closed capturing".

About a half step up from a slide show. I'd rather they had not used dynamic text and audio because having to pause my scrolling to let the quotes load was annoying. I Did find a little irony in the guy in the Guy Fawkes mask giving his first and last name.

No doubt all that will go on in university 'social studies' classes the rest of the year will be showing video of antifa rioting and praising it. Meanwhile over in the computer engineering department they will be preparing young adults to build SkyNet.

SkyNet can't come soon enough. I welcome my Terminator overlord.
