"The hunt for survivors of a devastating mudslide on the outskirts of Sierra Leone’s capital has continued, with 270 bodies recovered so far...."

And "thousands missing" — The Guardian reports.

Sierra Leone is way over-crowded. Over-crowding and poverty make disasters inevitable.

Adam Smith - Theory of Moral Sentiments:

Let us suppose that the great empire of China, with all its myriads of inhabitants, was suddenly swallowed up by an earthquake, and let us consider how a man of humanity in Europe, who had no sort of connection with that part of the world, would be affected upon receiving intelligence of this dreadful calamity. He would, I imagine, first of all, express very strongly his sorrow for the misfortune of that unhappy people, he would make many melancholy reflections upon the precariousness of human life, and the vanity of all the labours of man, which could thus be annihilated in a moment.

And when all this fine philosophy was over, when all these humane sentiments had been once fairly expressed, he would pursue his business or his pleasure, take his repose or his diversion, with the same ease and tranquillity, as if no such accident had happened. The most frivolous disaster which could befall himself would occasion a more real disturbance. If he was to lose his little finger to-morrow, he would not sleep to-night; but, provided he never saw them, he will snore with the most profound security over the ruin of a hundred millions of his brethren, and the destruction of that immense multitude seems plainly an object less interesting to him, than this paltry misfortune of his own

Mother nature gives and takes.

If you're buried in a mud slide, do they have to dig you out and bury you again?.......If I ever died in a natural disaster, mud slide would be my last choice. Dirty and probably takes too long. Lightning strike would be my first choice. Clean and quick.

Plant more trees with deep roots systems. Also, vegetation, generally, to increase soil aeration. Both are inexpensive options to mitigate this type of event.

Sierra Leone is way over-crowded.

High-density population centers increase the odds of a anthropogenic and natural events.

RIP.

That's a lot of people. It's unfortunate that there's nothing that can be said about it, except critique or a light hearted comment to remind us how thankful we live in an environment with a lot more protections from nature and each other.

But nature is trying to kill us 24/7.

Perhaps this should be a reminder that a lot of deaths in the US are of our own, deliberate even if seemingly unforseen, making.

We should all file a lawsuit against Mother Nature for natural selection - “but nature is trying to kill us 24/7" - for not obeying the coverages in ObambiCare, pre-existing condition that natural selection is. Love wins; but, it’s a helluva battle in which death takes a toll.
