How can anyone know? Who is enforcing this? Will no woman take advantage of the redly ripe opportunity to be different?

"'All female actresses attending the Globes are protesting by just wearing black gowns,' a source tells PEOPLE."

Remember what the greatest actress of all time did when she was under pressure to wear the right color:

This could be tricky for the women.

Everyone wearing black.

Normally displays of legs and cleavage would be a way to attract attention from the crowd, but that seems like it might defeat the purpose.

How much leg can be shown while still being taken seriously?

How much cleavage can be shown before you are contradicting your Political Statement?

If one of the women shows to much cleavage and legs in her black dress will there be Slut Shaming?

Fashion is Hard.

All female actresses

I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to discover what the male actresses will be wearing to this big gala! I sure wish I could be there in person!

For the black actresses who never got a chance to be sexually harassed because Hollywood shows little need for their services: what color should they wear?

Because it seems like Black Dresses Matter is pretty much a White Girl Thing.

She wore her red dress, but didn't she wimp out at the ball? Iirc, she didn't brass it out, she folded like a cheap red ball gown when she got the reaction she set out to provoke.

If so it will look like the funeral for Hollywood that it is.

But let's be clear: this is just more bullying by the left whereby the masses protect the rich and powerful who call the tune. Everyone is going to wear black because they told everyone to wear black. And if you wear black you won't be asked about Harvey, but if you don't wear black you'll be singled out as different. They're telling you up-front that if you don't wear black, you will be unlike "everyone". You will be on your own.

The idea is to herd all the sheep into a flock such that none can be picked off by the wolves. A flock of all-black sheep so even within the flock none catches the eye.

It is not a protest or a statement. It is a deliberate mixing of the good sheep with the bad, so the bad sheep can't be so easily spotted.

Baaa. Baaa.

I woulda thunk you were smarter than this, A-House. A woman with your intellect and background, I would have thought, would have more intelligent subjects to occupy herself with.

Sigh.

I've been at odds with some of the more prominent writers in the Manosphere that hold that women are all the same: they're ruled by their childish hormones and emotions, they play childish head games with endless shit tests. I want to believe they are as variable as men are but then I see crap like this. Bitchy stupid women protest being treated like bitchy stupid women by acting like bitchy stupid women.

The mind wobbles.

Will they be wearing ballet flats? Surely CFM shoes won't be allowed.

Who would have thunk that Saudi Arabia and Birmingham, England would be at the vanguard of Hollywood fashion? Not since Rudolf Valentino, anyways.

mockturtle said...

Bette Davis wasn't the greatest actress of all time. Not even close. But her movies were always worth watching. She was never pretty enough to play the femme fatale, though often cast as one.

tim in vermont said...

Some actor should dress in Arab garb, in an homage to Hollywood's roots, of course.

mockturtle said...

Thanks, Filthie! You are the voice of one crying in the wilderness.

Maybe black gowns for those whose virtue is intact and red for those who sucked off Harvey Weintstein

tim in vermont said...

As a man, Bette Davis was plenty pretty, no allowances required. Too good looking comes off as predatory, she was in the sweet spot.

I think that everybody who can prove they didn't know should wear white.

Off topic comment: The black characters in Hollywood's socially conscious southern dramas exist mostly to hold the white characters' coats in a dignified manner. Margaret Mitchell is nowhere near as socially conscious as Edna Ferber or Lillian Hellman, but she gave her black characters speaking parts and they are part of the drama. You can argue that GWTW was more cognizant of the humanity of black people than Jezebel or The Little Foxes.

I predict black with, variously, side boobs, bottom boobs and cleavage.

Harvey should show up and announce casting for some new movie.

Yes. GWTW displayed the closeness, physical and emotional, between the races in the slave south. In Uncle Tom's Cabin, Stowe pointed to this in describing the blatant hypocrisy of some New England abolitionists. We see this even today among the white elites, many of whom probably don't know any blacks personally much less had physical or emotional contact. Most of the South today is less racist than are the northern cities.

rhhardin said...

I Spit on Your Grave IV. Does Harvey own that franchise?

Separatist, not racist. Less mingling by choice.

"Separatist, not racist. Less mingling by choice."

Not sure how this is defined.

Thomas Sowell said, "I am so old that I can remember when the racists were all white."

mockturtle said...

More, not less 'mingling' in the south.

Also, several of the top ten most racially segregated cities in the US include Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Boston.

rhhardin said...

Separatist would just prefer living with your own kind, not particularly wishing others ill, even wishing them well.

rhhardin said...

Separatism has a positive side if IQs differ a lot between groups. Everybody makes a living without being out-competed and driven out of business by the smarter group.

The standard of living is lower in one group but the moral character does fine. That's the upside.

I think it's the motivation for black separatism on campus.

Perhaps you haven't met as many abysmally stupid white people as I have.

The feminists' Slut Walk, in full view, would solve their quandary.

There's lots of overlap but the averages are very noticeably different, which they're not with white-white or black-black. In same-group settings people still think they have a fair chance and then do.

The enforcement continues, and the women comply.

Before, no one is supposed to speak of such things. Now, everyone must.

You've come a long way, baby.

"Further evidence that it is not color, but rather character (e.g. principles) that matter."

I would recommend Theodore Dalrymple, Life at the Bottom, in which it is demonstrated that the British poor whites demonstrate the same destructive behavior and habits as American inner city blacks.

I was made aware of Dalrymple (Anthony Daniels) for the first time on this blog.

Roger says: in which it is demonstrated that the British poor whites demonstrate the same destructive behavior and habits as American inner city blacks.

And no doubt the destructive behavior would be blamed on poverty whereas, in reality, the poverty is a result of the destructive behavior.

You see this plenty in comments by the white lefties here. It’s pretty clear that many of them have never had a close relationship of any kind with a black person, by that, I mean met their families, broke bread with them, etc. If they had, they wouldn’t write half of the shit they write. You see it too in the anti-Christian bigotry. Anybody who hates believing Christians hates an awful lot of black people.

Well..going full Burqa would show more commitment...and less Patriarch! inflicted cosmetics.
But I imagine there will be creative approaches to displaying the "globes".
A black dress that's extremely sheer, for example.
I have a suggestion for the walk up music.

Saturday night I was down town
Working for the F.B.I.
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high
Boot legging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the D.A. man
When I heard this woman singing a song.

A pair of forty fives made me open my eyes
My temperature started to rise
She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a five nine
Beautiful
Tall
With just one look I was a bad mess
Cause that long cool woman had it all.

Saw her heading to the table
Well a tall walking big black cat
When Charlie said "I hope that you're able
Boy"
Well
I'm telling you she knows where it's at
Well suddenly we heard a siren
And every body started to run
A jumping out of doors and tables
Well I heard somebody shooting a gun.

Well the D.A. was pumping my left hand
And a she a holding my right
And I told her don't get scared
Cause you're gonna be spared
I gotta be forgiven
If I want to spend my living with
A long cool woman in a black dress
Just a five nine
Beautiful
Tall
With just one look I was a bad mess
'Cause that long cool woman had it all
Had it all
Had it all
Had it all

American women are delusional enough to believe they have a constitutional right to not be liked by anyone they don't want to be liked by.

I think it is more of a vicious and interlinked circle. Poverty and destructive behaviour. Which came first? Chick or egg?

DBQ, I remember during Katrina a young mother, black, with two children saying she was fleeing to Houston because that's where she could find work. She didn't sit around waiting for someone else to help her.

Now I'm not saying that people in natural disasters are not victims. Of course they are. What I'm saying is that attitude makes a big difference in the outcome.

The Plantation Party fosters dependence because it keeps them in power and sustains their agenda.

Excuse me while I go off and retch. What a cheap, pointless gesture by both the men and the women (but the men more so, it deserves nothing but contempt.

Where were these people when it mattered? What do they know that they STILL are not saying?

Reminds me of a few years ago when Boko Haram kidnapped over a hundred young girls and Michelle Obama came up with a hashtag as her big response, and all the smart set acted like that was somehow not just helpful (hah) but courageous (hah hah).

These people are really pathetic. By "these people" I mean all our celebrities and the majority of pols and academics and thought leaders on the liberal side (not forgetting quite a few on the Right as well).

The "greatest actress of all time"? Man, I can't agree with that!

Except for her performance in 'All About Eve,' in which she essentially played herself, and 'The Man Who Came to Dinner,' in which her part was not significant enough to ruin the movie, Davis, in my book, was nothing more than a ham.

She brought melodrama to nearly every role, even when she wasn't in melodramas and she was the worst practitioner of the "Mid-Atlantic" accent, the speech pattern of a land where nobody lived. That affectation didn't compensate for her lack of believability as an actor.

I love classic movies. But when one of her pictures is on TCM, I either switch channels or leave it on to watch it 'Mystery Science 3000'-style.

mockturtle said...

She always played herself. Sometimes 'herself' coincided with the role.

Interesting Prisoner's Dilemma. A woman who defects and wears red will garner more attention. If too many women defect, then the #MeToo movement loses cohesion. Either way, the #MeToo movement reveals itself as a negative-sum game.
