"Family of H&M 'Coolest Monkey' ad model forced to move due to 'security concerns.'"

Why?!

The mother of the boy criticized the criticism, saying that her son modeled "hundreds of outfits" and that people need “Stop crying wolf all the time, unnecessary issue here… get over it." Then she got attacked by “other black people for not condemning H&M" and for being "a sellout" and "an embarrassment to the black and African-American people" who "sold my son for money."

ADDED: The link goes to Fox News. I'm puzzling over why the woman said "African American" when she lives in Sweden and the protests were in South Africa. Perhaps she was speaking Swedish and the translation is bad.

WTF, the family is in Sweden and the protests were in South Africa.

Who dreamed this up, Dick "shithole" Durbin?

Style guides prevent the use of ‘black’ as a descriptor. She didn’t say AA, but the agency will translate it that way.

The race card is going to fail spectacularly. Chuck’s, ARM’s, and Inga’s talking points will all converge. They must separate Trump from his base which is growing. Just like Reagan’s did when his deregulation and tax reform efforts caused the economy to grow after a period of democrat failure. Crazy, demented, racist, uncouth, etc.

The violent rhetoric has already started. They will start excusing the assasination attempts next.

Journalists call black people "African-American." What's another inaccuracy?

You know it is bad when ARM gives up on racism and starts telling people he hates what they should think about an imaginary event.

No need to puzzle, Althouse. It's a common and funny occurrence. Nice people know they're not allowed to say "black" but don't know how else to describe someone's race, so they default to African-American even when it very clearly does not apply.
Better to be wrong and show oneself to not understand the words one uses than to slip up and do something that can be called racist. That'd be downright ugly!

Vance said...

Ever notice how ARM has nothing bad to say about Bill Clinton's raping and assaulting women? About Bob Menendez flying to Pedo island (he's only a sitting Democrat Senator; child rape is no big deal for ARM as long as it's a Democrat doing the raping).

Look, ARM: What, exactly, do you expect? Should Trump keep it in his pants? Yes. Should we run around hysterically calling for Trump to quit so the self proclaimed Party of Purity; the Democrats, get power?

Why on earth would that be better?

It's simple. Right now, to use an analogy, we are being governed by Patton--crude, rude, brutal, abusive, effective at slaying the enemy. You want us to fire Patton and put Heinrich Himmler in charge, complete with total destruction of America, the camps, etc. For that is what Hillary and the Democrat party have made perfectly clear is in store for us if they ever get power again.

While I might wish for Eisenhower, I much prefer Patton, thank you very much. Especially since your side killed the decent people on your side like Rommel.....

I am not the judge of Trump. He will answer for whatever sins he's committed. But right now, I'm glad all he's doing is a little old fashioned adultery. Your side wants mandatory transsexual encounters and forcible gay sex ... to make sure everyone "gets a chance to experience whether they might be gay" or some such rot. Your side cheers forcible mutilation of women in the name of diversity. Your side wants to jail people who call a male a male.

Compared to that, Trump's adultery is positively refreshing.

African-American means black. It's a euphemism, each euphemism replacing the previous one as each previous one takes on unwanted connotations.

This happened at work one time where one colleague referred to another as African-American, whereupon that colleague told him of his inaccuracy but said that he would gladly accept American citizenship if it were on offer. He then suggested that in the interim the terms African and Nigerian would both work fine, as would black. I guess when one is from Africa, Black is Beautiful.

I recall that on one of the Star Trek spin-offs, a Black actor was cast to play the part of a Vulcan (you know, the pointy-ear people), and the entertainment press described the character as "the first African American Vulcan".

I also remember that in one of Heilein's novels (I think a juvenile), the lead character discovers in the middle of the book that he's what was called (back in the old and unenlightened times) a Negro. This was the character that the reader had been identifying with throughout the book. It was a brilliant device in the '50's to get smart kids (the kind that read sci-fi) to realize how irrelevant race is.

What rhhardin said. Black --> Negro --> colored --> black --> African-American --> person of color --> whatever.

It's a rigged game, the only way to win is not to play. Or play orthogonally, by just inventing your own terms. Black --> nonwhite. Or AA --> melanin-enriched. Whatever. Just so long as it's not "their" word.

They don't care about their word, they just care about using it to hurt you.

Look at that little monkey run!

This expression was said by Howard Cosell during a 1972 televised ABC broadcast on July 29, 1972 in reference to Mike Adamle, a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs in the preseason AFC-NFC "Hall of Fame" game between the Chiefs vs. New York Giants at Fawcett Stadium.

Until the appearance of the factual website about it, people mistakenly associated this sentence with a different football game in 1983. On September 5, 1983, during the season opening Monday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins, Howard Cosell made a second comment using the words "little monkey." In that game, Redskins wide receiver Alvin Garrett was playing a great game, and following Garrett's 6th pass reception while still in the first quarter, Howard Cosell commented to Don Meredith, "Joe Gibbs wanted to get this kid and that little monkey gets loose doesn't he?"

When a smaller physical stature NFL football player would run and dart around after getting his hands on the ball, Cosell would like to say "Look at that little monkey run!" It didn't matter if it was a white or black player.

This reminds me of an incident during the time when newspapers were switching to the desktop publishing model. One paper, I think in Atlanta, created a macro to automatically change the word "black" to "African-American."

They stopped using it when an article made it to print referring to a local company whose positive economic rebound put them "back in the African American."

>>They don't care about their word, they just care about using it to hurt you.

I disagree. I believe the point is to make you use *their* word, and not yours. This is the first step to limiting what you are allowed to say, and then, allowed to think.

It's all about power and control. Liberty is their enemy.

President Trump announced his first Fake News Awards on Wednesday night.

The President posted a tweet on the award winners on Twitter.

The webpage is currently not loading…
TRUMP BROKE THE INTERNET

The Fake News Awards BROKE THE INTERNET.

The president listed about 12 stories as winning the Fake News Awards for 2017.
UPDATE — HERE IS THE LIST…..

2017 was a year of unrelenting bias, unfair news coverage, and even downright fake news. Studies have shown that over 90% of the media’s coverage of President Trump is negative.

Below are the winners of the 2017 Fake News Awards:

1. The New York Times’ Paul Krugman claimed on the day of President Trump’s historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover.

2. ABC News’ Brian Ross CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report.

3. CNN FALSELY reported that candidate Donald Trump and his son Donald J. Trump, Jr. had access to hacked documents from WikiLeaks.

4. TIME FALSELY reported that President Trump removed a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. from the Oval Office.

5. Washington Post FALSELY reported the President’s massive sold-out rally in Pensacola, Florida was empty. Dishonest reporter showed picture of empty arena HOURS before crowd started pouring in.

6. CNN FALSELY edited a video to make it appear President Trump defiantly overfed fish during a visit with the Japanese prime minister. Japanese prime minister actually led the way with the feeding.

7. CNN FALSELY reported about Anthony Scaramucci’s meeting with a Russian, but retracted it due to a “significant breakdown in process.”

8. Newsweek FALSELY reported that Polish First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda did not shake President Trump’s hand.

9. CNN FALSELY reported that former FBI Director James Comey would dispute President Trump’s claim that he was told he is not under investigation.

10. The New York Times FALSELY claimed on the front page that the Trump administration had hidden a climate report.

11. And last, but not least: “RUSSIA COLLUSION!” Russian collusion is perhaps the greatest hoax perpetrated on the American people. THERE IS NO COLLUSION!

While the media spent 90% of the time focused on negative coverage or fake news, the President has been getting results:

1. The economy has created nearly 2 million jobs and gained over $8 trillion in wealth since the President’s inauguration.

2. African Americans and Hispanics are enjoying the lowest unemployment rate in recorded history.

3. The President signed historic tax cuts and relief for hardworking Americans not seen since President Reagan.

4. President Trump’s plan to cut regulations has exceeded “2 out for every 1 in” mandate, issuing 22 deregulatory actions for every one new regulatory action.

5. The President has unleashed an American energy boom by ending Obama-era regulations, approving the Keystone pipeline, auctioning off millions of new acres for energy exploration, and opening up ANWR.

6. ISIS is in retreat, having been crushed in Iraq and Syria.

7. President Trump followed through on his promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and instructed the State Department to begin to relocate the Embassy.

8. With President Trump’s encouragement, more member nations are paying their fair share for the common defense in the NATO alliance.

9. Signed the Veterans Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act to allow senior officials in the VA to fire failing employees and establishes safeguards to protect whistleblowers.

10. President Trump kept his promise and appointed Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.
