"Please don’t give them those eyebrows that look like black electrical tape or they won’t get job."

From a NY Post article on bad "microblading" (microblading is permanently tattooed eyebrow makeup):
“A lot of people are walking around with eyebrows that are theatrical or cartoonish,’’ says NYC-based makeup and brow designer Paulo Siqueira, who prefers more traditional techniques. “Many model agencies are forbidding their girls from getting microblading because the process can go so wrong. They send me new faces and the bookers say, ‘Please don’t give them those eyebrows that look like black electrical tape or they won’t get jobs.'"
Dark, thick eyebrows have been popular in recent years, and they sure look good...

... but there's always the danger that they may go out of style and — years from now, when maybe you won't care — seem outdated.

Zuckerburger sure needs them. Tom Selleck not so much.

Fashionable can never be permanent.

I always thought it makes for more humor when you can see the blackening in Groucho’s close-ups. He was a clown so he needed makeup.

Regret? Like that tattoo sleeve?

If you must have a face tattoo, eyebrows are the way to go. Start with one and see if you like it.

I guess I get it, not every chick can have eyebrows like Nasim Najafi Aghdam, but the microbladed chicks always look funny to me, because you can't tell what facial expression they really have, sometimes it seems the eyebrows are doing one thing and the rest of their face is doing another.

I remember my grandfather used to have these framed posters in his condo by some 80s dude named Nagel, and this Nagel dude drew these 80s chicks who always had these, like, 80s eyebrows, and that's what I think of when I see these chicks with the eyebrow tattoos, I think of those framed posters in my grandfather's condo.

The pictures seemed really sexy back then, even though you didn't see, like, tits or anything. Maybe he couldn't draw tits well, I don't know, but I think he was just trying to be classy and shit. But the chicks definitely look 80s. The chicks in 80s copies of Playboy looked 80s, too, but it was a different kind of 80s look, they had, like, bigger hair, and didn't look like Zoolander as much.

There's a guy on 4chan who scans pages from old 80s porn magazines like Swank and High Society and shit. And even in the 80s some of these chicks were spreading their ass cheeks and showing their assholes, but I think it was only models in magazines, regular chicks didn't do this shit yet, it was before the internet.

Anyway, these chicks tattooing their eyebrows, I wonder if in the future they'll look like 80s chicks look to us now. Because it'll be weird, seeing grandmas going around with tattooed eyebrows, pretending like they never posted pictures of themselves spreading their ass cheeks and showing their assholes on the internet.

I post my shit here.

Audrey Hepburn made the transition from Magic Marker eyebrows, maybe Cara Delavigne can, too.

Lena Dunham gets microbladed? A-ha! Now we know her beauty secret.

A couple years ago I considered doing that...went to the aesthetician's office, but it was closed. Whew, dodged a bullet!

Who would have thought balding eyebrows would be a thing? But it is.

Here's the thing: it really sucks to lose your eyebrows as is happening to me in middle age. I would love to achieve a very subtle natural brow by a permanent or semi-permanent method so that my face would no longer be bald. I had hopes for microblading--sigh.

So, a tattoo on the face has the same problem as a tattoo anywhere else on your body. Duly noted.

@Carol and @RigelDog -- Historically, balding eyebrows were a symptom of syphilis. Women of means so afflicted in times past would have "eyebrow wigs" made of mouse fur made to conceal their uncleanness.

(Perhaps since she has time on her hands now, our host can track down the Jonathan Swift poem that mocks the woman left in the lurch when her cat has absconded with her "eyebrows" right before a social occasion.)

My 72-year-old wife manages this with a few deft strokes with an eyebrow pencil. The long-term problem with any tattoo is that the tattooed area might not stay put with age.

A chief in the Navy explained that the trouble with tattoos is they provide a distinguishing characteristic which makes it easy to pick you out of a lineup. "That's him, officer ! The guy with the tattoo !"

Make up works OK for me, but of course it has to be re-applied constantly. I am pretty fair so I think my best look is achieved with a bit of light brown eye shadow worked into my brows to fill them out and extend the line a bit. Perhaps the ideal would be a semi-permanent pigment in a color that looks natural and would fade over the course of a few months.

In all seriousness, NO ONE should get any kind of tattoo on a part of the body that can be seen by anyone other than an intimate partner. Fashions change. Tattoos are permanent (yes, they do change with age, but not in a good way).

Japan did this centuries ago. And then gave it up because it was too weird for them.

Shaving the eyebrows and replacing them with false one higher up the forehead:
"Well before the twelfth century, tooth-blackening marked a girl's coming of age. So did okimayu, the practice of shaving off her eyebrows and substituting painted ones; konezumi [こねずみ?], a mixture of lampblack, rouge, gold leaf, and sesame oil was occasionally used, but there were plenty of other recipes and a variety of brushes and spatulas with which to apply the gooey makeup. At first these 'adult' cosmetic procedures were adopted by girls of thirteen, but eventually, in the nineteenth century, the acceptable age climbed to seventeen."

"By the eighteenth century... the shaving of eyebrows was only done by brides, or by mothers following the arrivals of their first-born child." (Ibid.)
