Trump motormouthing on "Fox and Friends" this morning.

My notes, jotted down in real time, listening to this after posting the video:

He only got a card and flowers for Melania for her birthday, because he's very busy.

He's really changed Macron's thinking about Iran.

Iran's "little boats" are not circling our ships any more.

The subject of Ronny Jackson triggers a long rant about Democrats obstructing all his nominees.

He brings up Diamond and Silk. They're "warriors." Like the nominees Democrats obstruct.

"Doc Ronny... an incredible man... they're trying to destroy a man... I said 'welcome to the swamp'..."

Comey's "a leaker and a liar" and his "friend" is a "so-called professor"... Comey put "a lot of phony stuff" in his memos... Comey is "guilty of crimes" and "if the Justice Department was doing its job" — but it's your Justice Department! — Trump sets himself apart from it.

Trump has accomplished more in his first year than any other President (even with all this obstruction)...

Michael Cohen is just one of his many attorneys, and Cohen only covers "a tiny, tiny little fraction" of his legal work — notably "this crazy Stormy Daniels deal." When it comes to the criminal investigation of Michael CohenTrump is "not involved" and has been told he's not involved.

He gets along with Kanye. Kanye sees how low black unemployment is, and he's smart. He sees what's happening. "It's changing back" to black people going for Republicans. "You know, Lincoln was a Republican."

Shania Twain is terrific, but she shouldn't have apologized for supporting him. He likes the way Kanye is "sticking to his guns."

He'd rather face a popular vote for President than the Electoral College because "it's easier" to win. They said he couldn't win the Electoral College, that it was structured to be a big advantage to the Democrat.

"I'm not like Obama" or Kerry with the Iran deal. With North Korea, he's ready to walk out. He hasn't given up anything, but "Sleepy eyes Chuck Todd" and the "fake news" are criticizing him for giving up so much to North Korea.

The "Fox and Friends" guy sounds like he's getting exasperated.

Anderson Cooper was "surprisingly tough" on Comey.

Invited to give himself a grade on his presidency, he goes on about how he's fighting against a lot of phonies in the swamp and it's a "fix" and a "witch hunt" before giving himself an A+.

Trump's forte is not the boring, sit-down interview. His forte is tangling with someone, say, Liz Warren, and calling her, say, Pochahontas.

Trump is simultaneously both his own worst and best advocate. When he speaks he seems to make people who like him like him even more, people who hate him hate him even more, and people who are indifferent to him even more indifferent to him. You know what he is. Here's more of that.

I'm beginning to get the queasy feeling that Trump can't - or won't - play hardball with Congress. The Senate Republicans are blocking his agenda and his nominees and seems unwilling to threaten them, or bribe them, into doing the right thing.

I hope he's learning the ways of DC and will change.

Yeah, me too. In the primaries, Hillary and the Dems promoted him because they thought he would be easy to beat, while CNN and the leftwing media promoted him to get ratings.

Then, he kicked their butts, and they remain furious and unhinged about it.

"He's really changed Macron's thinking about Iran."

One of the few refutable claims he appeared to make.

Hard to say if it's true, but Macron did seem to realize afterward that Trump was unlikely to stick with the old deal and wanted a "Trump's deal." If he gauged the strength of Trump's opposition to business as usual more accurately, I suppose that counts as a change. We'll see how it plays out.

Ann Althouse said...

Whether you like him or not and whether you agree with him or not, the description "motormouthing" is accurate. I don't gratuitously insult Trump like so many others. I'm stating a fact that if you like Trump you should agree with, because if you don't, you'll be dishonest and how will that help your man Trump?

Yes, Trump is a motormouth, at least in his public persona. Sometimes an entertaining one, but surely he has a severe case of logorrhea.

peacelovewoodstock said...

@victoria: "I am frightened of his stream of consciousness."

This saddens me, that a person could be frightened by a politician who is a plain talking, shoot-from-the-hip kind of person.

When I get nervous is when I hear things like "if you like your insurance, you can keep your insurance" from a glib, calculating, supercilious, narcissist kind of person.

I'm watching now; did these toadies ask one single hard question of the President? I'd like to know and I'll probably pay more attention if anybody seriously suggests to me that there was a good question in the whole 30 minutes.

This disgraceful bit of non-journalistic cheerleading; it's the Official Morning Show of the Trump Administration. Like North Korean television interviewing Kim Jong Un.

What he has done since he won is even more impressive. Think about what he is up against:

The entire intelligence apparatus spied on him and everyone in his campaign.

They handed all of that information over to a DOJ that started an "investigation" into "collusion" by a hoard of people trying to find anything to remove him from office.

A State Department full of globalist shills.

A Congress with a republican party led by globalist shills and enough traitors to give the uniparty effective control.

A completely rogue federal judiciary.

Not only is he surviving he is thriving.

traditionalguy said...

Listen faster. He talks in code but it is code based on the Media stories that we have already heard many times, so it is easy. I think of it as taking shorthand dictation at 90 words per minute.

The funniest part was watching the Fox & Friends personalities trying over and over to get a word in. They were shut out. When they tried to ask a question, DGT just talked faster about what he wanted to say.

No wonder Kanye West identifies with Trump as a fellow possessor of Dragon Energy.

Actually, they did ask two good questions.

Together (it was almost one question) at just after the 14:00 mark; Steve Doocy asked, "Mr. President, how much of your legal work was (Cohen) handling?" Trump said, "A tiny amount," and so of course the US Attorneys in New York immediately put that into a pleading filed as today's hearing on privilege motions got started. And Ainsley Earhardt promptly asked, "[If Cohen did nothing wrong, as Trump said] Then why is he [Cohen] pleading the Fifth?"

So Trump is now on record saying Cohen is mostly a businessman, not a lawyer; Cohen did a "tiny" amount of Trump's legal work; and the federal investigation is -- according to Trump although we don't know how Trump knows this because Trump says he is not having anything to do with the investigation -- all about Cohen's private business, and has nothing to do with Trump.

Two good questions in 30 minutes. Zero hard questions in 30 minutes.

And as for my using the word "Toady" regarding Brian Kilmeade; I regret that. I regret that I can't think of a better/stronger word to describe Kilmeade's unctuousness.

Trump has always gone on Fox and Friends and run his mouth. When I had to wake at 3 a.m. I dreaded Mondays because he would come on and blah for 20 (seemed like 30) minutes. Boring bloviating New York-centric BS. (One of my pet peeves about “national” news is how seldom it gets beyond NY or DC.) It’s these Mondays that I grew to despise Trump. Only much later, in the primaries, as he began to thump “low energy Jeb” and “little Marco” did my fondness for Trump grow. When he did the entire human race a favor and kept Hillary from power I truly loved him. As his actions have achieved true conservative reforms my respect and admiration for him has grown.

I no longer watch F&F and little news at all. But I’m sure I’d hate this clip too.

@Achilles,

In an unorthodox, unexpected way, this is largely correct.

The constant 24/7 noise obscures this. And some folks have trouble discerning between unimportant stuff (tweets) and important stuff (tax cuts, reforming trade deals, etc).

If Trump continues to fight against illegal immigration and slowly re-establishes manufacturing jobs that help blue-collar workers, he will be in good shape for re-election.

It reminds me of the old joke about the Klansmen that capture a young black man and bury him in dirt up to his neck, then sic their dog on him. But the young black man has a thick afro and by ducking and weaving back and forth, all the dog manages to get is a mouthful of hair. The dog starts to whine, and one of the Klansmen yells, "Come on, boy, fight my dog fair!"

I'm not a Democrat, and I am the farthest thing there is, from being a Kanye West fan. But it occurs to me; Democrats are being (generally; I know that there are exceptions) a lot more careful, and circumspect, and nuanced, in their criticism of Kanye West, than the Tea Party/Trump Yahoos of the Right are, with respect to genuine conservatives like Jonah Goldberg, Steve Hays, Kevin Williamson, George Will or Bill Kristol.

You in particular have called those guys every name in the book. Because they don't support Trump. Sean Hannity's complete reason for being at this point is to harangue Republicans who are insufficiently supportive of The Donald. Rush Limbaugh has been hounding "RINO's" even before there was a President Trump.

You don't frighten me; you don't concern me. I don't feel abused, or threatened. I feel no sympathy for, or solidarity with, someone like Kanye West. I just think it's funny. I honestly think the whole shitshow is funny now. I'm not a coal miner; I'm not a steelworker; I'm not a Medicaid recipient; I'm not a DACA applicant; I'm not in the 101st Airborne. I don't see how Trump can mess up my life, no matter how badly he fucks up. Others might well have good reason to feel differently. He's doing a few odd things that make me happy. Federal judges (no one has let Trump screw that up yet); federal deregulation; the Department of Education; Jeff Sessions at Justice. I'm good. I've got reason to feel good.

Will was hoping for a 50-state defeat, for Trump. Not for Congressional Republicans, or state Republicans.

Assuredly, Will doesn't much care for Democratic-Party federal judicial nominations, either. But he'd get them, with a Democrat in the White House. One reason why I felt compelled to vote for Trump, but Will did not.

POTUS Hillary would've nominated Garland, and probably the replacement for Kennedy, giving us a leftist Ginsburg/Kagan dominated SCOTUS for the next 20 years.

All those "conservatives" were OK with that.

Simple question Chuck - do you support the Trump tax cut or not?

Personally, I did not like the bill. But I am quite certain that I would have voted for it, under pressure from the Whip's office.

I did not like the fact that it was so far away from a more revenue-neutral "reform" bill. The reason that Trump liked the bill was that he could sell it to his dumb base as something as simple as big, big cuts. Trump thought that the problem with tax legislation is that something as nuanced as "tax reform" could never get the needed votes and support. As usual, Trump wanted the simplistic solution.

And as usual, Trump stomped all over his campaign promises. Trump promised a tax plan where the wealthy like him would pay more. He said so repeatedly. As the bill was being negotiated, Trump said that the bill being planned would "cost [him] a fortune." And that was a lie, in light of what was finally passed.

This was Trump in Florida not too long ago; if you can understand him:

So I met with the politicians. And you know, I’ve only been doing this for like two-and-a-half years. So I said, “What’s the problem? How can you not get tax cuts?” They said, “Well, we don’t call it tax cuts. We call it tax reform.” I said, that’s your problem. Tax reform doesn’t work because we do have tax reform, but people don’t understand that, you know, what we’re doing is cutting taxes. We’re also reforming, but that could be an increase in taxes. We’re cutting taxes.

George Will, Bill Kristol, Jonah Goldberg, and Chuck wanted a Republican Congress...that would do nothing.

They had that Congress. They did nothing. They are a total failure. They had globalist toadies Ryan and McConnell in charge and they did their job. They frustrated President Trumps agenda. They held back his nominees to protect the sinecure of the swamp creatures. They are hoping that the Democrats take over Congress so Trump will be stymied. In the hope that he will decide to not run again.

Ryan was successful in his goals. Now he is going to retire to make millions from the lobbyists.

The Republican party is the problem. We need a new nationalist party. Or we need to purge the Quislings like Chuck. That is the only way we can have real change.

The Maginot Line:"French military experts extolled the Line as a work of genius that would deter German aggression, because it would slow an invasion force long enough for French forces to mobilize and counterattack." (Wikipedia)

In the event it took the Germans one month (one month!!!) to run the French Government out of Paris in May -June 1941.

Yet you want to entrust your childrens' lives to the French. No thanks.

Balloon-Juice hit the nail on the head this morning. Trump's latest fiasco resulted from watching CNN's Town Hall starring Jim Comey last night. In a short version Comey described Donald's leadership style thus:

“I saw Presidents (George W.) Bush and (Barack) Obama both use humor effectively to relax, to put at ease, to try and get to the truth. I never saw President Trump laugh even in an almost hour-and-a-half hour long private dinner,”...

“His only reference point is internal — ‘what will bring me what I need, what will fill this hole in me — get me the affirmation I crave’ — that is deeply concerning ...

Balloon-Juice noted a ring of truth: "... what Comey is describing is the behavior of a malignant narcissist. Actually, everything Comey says strikes me as the truth as he understands it — mendaciousness isn’t Comey’s sin; hubris is."

"I had mostly negative feelings about Comey’s book tour, but if it rattles Trump this badly, maybe it’s a good thing."

Trump sure did love the way the French put on a military parade though, so much so that he wants to emulate them.

In today's Stephens column in NYT an interesting link to a 2016 article in Telegraph beginning thus:

By Andrew Roberts 11:00AM GMT 31 Jan 2016
The only time I met Donald Trump told me all I needed to know. It was at an American Red Cross dinner-dance to raise money to fight cancer, held at his opulent Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach a few years ago. It was of course extremely generous of him to lay on the place gratis for the night – there was a synchronized swimming display in the swimming pool, I remember – and the evening did indeed raise over $5 million, but in personally deciding the placement for the dinner he did something so unforgivable that the real man was exposed in all his egotistical vulgarity.

He sat his wife at the same table as a lady – and I must be careful here – who several of his friends present strongly believed to be his mistress. The rest of us at the table were dumbfounded and embarrassed; Trump himself obviously found it amusing as he ruined the evening for both pneumatic and almost identical women. The obscene self-regard of the man was laid bare for us all.

Left Bank of the Charles said...

Ainsley Earnshard sits stone-faced through the whole interview, then Trump plugs her book at the end, and she is all smiles. The man does know what he is doing.

Sorry, it was May -June 1940 - one month nonetheless. While I am at it another example of modern French military genius: the French were "convinced " (see note below) that the Ardennes Forest was impenetrable to tanks in 1940 thus leaving it weakly fortified. Where, students, do you think the Germans made their main attack? Bueller, that is absolutely correct: the Ardennes Forest!

An important addition to the above is that the French ran war games in the late 30's that showed an attack by Germany through the Ardennes would crush the French army. Being military genii they did nothing about it - other than keep it secret.

Today we will discuss the significance of Dien Bien Phu to France's military history. Inga?

Absolutely. Enthusiastically. This is a funny thing; Trump is so dense about legal matters, and so unencumbered by having to pay back political favors from a life in politics that Trump never experienced, I actually think that apart from the possibility of a President Ted Cruz, the Trump nominations are better than any other Republican candidate from 2016.

Of course, Trump's judicial selections are straight out of the Federalist Society playbook as you rightly note. Which thrills me. Trump was a perfect clean slate on which the Federalist Society could write the next four years of federal nominations.

Republicans forced JBJ to end segregation. It would have ended 5 years sooner if Nixon had beaten JFK.

Now democrats stick kids in shitty public schools and used planned parenthood to practice eugenics. They turn black communities into crime ridden ghettos and have purposely destroyed the black family.

Leftists never change tactics. Just the names.

Inga: "...what do you think about the Jews and Muslims?"

That's a good question.

Let's take a look at how the muslims are treating the jews in Europe:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/30/opinion/jews-murder-paris-knoll.html

https://www.jpost.com/Diaspora/Antisemitic-attacks-across-London-designed-to-instill-fear-says-Jewish-group-479335

Yikes.

Those muslims are really going after the jews.

Is that why Inga wants the islamists to emigrate to the US in such large numbers?

Slaves were brought to the Americas more than 100 years before the Revolutionary war.

You need your Jews. In fact Orthodox Jews are an important part of the White Nationalist coalition. We support Israel to the hilt and the designation of Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish nation. Without Jews in Israel there will never be a Rapture. Everybody knows this.

Besides ecause we need someone to do our taxes. As the God Emperor says call in the little guys with the yarmulke's. They are important to our success.

Muslims are cockroachs. You can't have a healthy society with a large Muslim population. Just look at the world around you. Who has a preponderance of Muzzies and a healthy prosperous society? Iraq? Bangladesh? England?

Your world is so much better off if there are no Muslims clipping off babies clits or ritually murdering women. It is just a fact.

I was asking your buddy Langford Peel, not you, motormouth.

Last I heard Jews were free people, they’re not yours or mine. What an ignorant comment.

Royal ass Inga is bad at math and knows little of the history of the colonies. Still she is correct that it was the lineal forebears of Democrats who brought slaves to the U.S.

Jews are not free.

You always have to pay when you deal with them.

Have you ever met one?

Gee wiz you are dense.

Democrats brought them here and savagely beat them.

I think business owners brought them here, actually. Are you saying that, as with oil companies today, the economic benefit wasn't what motivated the business practice of having a free-laboring slave work your fields instead of someone you had to pay? Which would you choose?

Jefferson owned slaves - a Democratic-Republican.

So did Madison. He was also a Democratic-Republican.

Quincy Adams did not - but he was also a Democratic-Republican.

Washington owned slaves - unaffiliated.

As did many people, those belonging to political parties and those who did not. Whereas the "big government" party of the day, the Federalists, hosted Hamilton and Adams and others who did not own slaves. Why would it... it was a northern party and slavery was a regional phenomenon moreso than a political one. Looks like your understanding of American political history is really shitty.

They were freed by republicans.

Who used the power of government to promote a fair wage. Are you saying you're now for the power of government to promote a fair wage?

Gosh, I sure hope so. That would be long overdue.

Langford wants Israel to be safe and free and makes off color jokes.

Inga wants Israel to be wiped out by Muslims and cheers as Muslims attack Jews all across Europe. She is so impressed by Muslim immigration to to Europe she wants to bring them here in mass too.

Inga will never call any muslim anti-semitic.

Ever.

Langford wants to leave anti-semitism to the white nationalists. They're so much more advanced at it.

If he has any thoughts about Israel they're probably to do with using them to fight our proxy wars or as a sacrificial lamb in the apocalypse foretold in the Book of Revelation.

Nowadays those roles are reversed.

Since Inga is still hanging around I will leave her this quote from Macron regarding the Iran agreement “We want sustainable stability and I believe that the discussions we’ve had together make it possible to open the way, to pave the way, for a new agreement,” Mr. Macron said Tuesday, (WSJ) . So apparently Macron agrees with Trump that a "new agreement" needs to be negotiated.

So is wise guy Achilles going to respond to the 6:54 comment that so astutely demonstrates the history of the Democratic-Republican and Federalist parties in kowtowing to slavery prior to the Civil War or is he just going to ignorantly pretend it didn't exist so that he can transplant 2018 politics onto an 1776 - 1860 timeline?

Where's all that substance of his? Apparently he's got a really substantive understanding of American political history! Let's hear it!

I mean, it's not like he can just do weed and anabolic steroid injections all day and come up with something that will leave others taking him seriously, can he?

Well, he thinks he can. But then, he also entertains thoughts of carrying out acts of domestic terrorism when he gets bored.

That's Achilles for you.

Jonah Goldberg did not vote for Hillary. He said he would not,

I am so tired of calling out this disingenuous bullshit.

Not Voting for either the Dem/Rep. is the same as voting for the other party. Didn't vote for Trump? You Just supported the Dem candidate. You can dress up that pig anyway that gets you to sleep at night, but your vote supported Clinton's wife.

"langford longs for the good old days when anti-semitism was respectable among Christians and Muslims had no national aspirations or developmental aims at all. "

No-one "longs" for those days because they never really left. Its been the same old thing for 1400 years. Just the details, locations, weapons change, not the fundamentals. And its not just Christians. Hindus and Buddhists and Jews and atheistic communists all have the same problems with Muslims. And, especially, Muslims have problems with Muslims.

These fights are so old that archaeologists specialize in artifacts of that conflict, which is still ongoing.

Fort Pilar

This, the Real Fuerza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza, was built in 1635.
It is the typical bastioned fortress of the 17th century, but even in its day it was rather simple, lacking a glacis, ditch and counterscarp, because it was intended to fight off the Muslims, who lacked siege artillery. It survived numerous Muslim attacks over the centuries, and the Dutch and British also.

The last major Muslim attack on Zamboanga - the sort of thing Fort Pilar was built to defend against, was by about 500 men in September 2013.

Zamboanga is by all accounts a nice place (I have never been), but the odds of a foreigner, or anyone worth holding for ransom, being kidnapped (by Muslims) makes it a no-go area for most.

Now now Pee Pee don't be silly. You always need your Jews. You need your Pawn Brokers, diamond dealers and usursers to have a functioning society.

In fact I grant you if you really need tap dancers and basketball players you might find some utility in having the odd Negro. Still I think we could do without just fine and have a much more coherent and much safer society.

Sure we will miss the pancakes and converted rice but there is always French Toast and mashed potatoes.

India-Pakistan 2016-2017

It never ends. Even if the border is quiet for a decade somewhere (anywhere along the "bloody borders"), the whole thing can start up again with no notice and for no apparent reason.
