At the Bear/Badger Café...

... enjoy the warmth.

And consider using the Althouse Portal to Amazon. Me, I just used Amazon to buy a new clothes dryer. It took me about 5 minutes today to pick one and to click the buttons that set up the delivery and installation that will happen on Monday. What pleasant ease! So boring to go to an appliance store to buy something like that and to schedule and wait for the installation. The last clothes dryer I bought worked for more than 30 years. The Social Security Actuarial Table gives me a life expectancy of 19 more years, so presumably I'll never have to buy another clothes dryer.

The Bucky Badger sculpture is one of many in Madison this summer. That one, near Picnic Point, was painted by Angelica Contreras.

Really.

There's that word again.

Has LLR Chuck yet retracted his critique of Trump's claim's of having been "wiretapped"?

I notice no lefties have.

I wonder if LLR Chuck will distance himself, for once, from his leftist allies.

Of course, why would he start now?

LOL

Don't bet on it. Modern washers/dryers aren't as good today as they were 30 years ago.

Please don't condemn Chuck to nights in the dark.

You should have fixed the one you had. New appliances are all crap.

I heartily concur with the other Unknown. Same for lawnmowers. Always get an old appliance or lawnmower if you can. Never get a new toliet or showerhead if you can help it either.

So Trump calls MS-13 gang members animals and right on cue the Fake News Complex leaps into action. Without hesitation, we hear that Trump has labeled ALL immigrants animals. I just love the media.

Hard to believe it's only one year

Here's the NPR Mueller story transcript I mentioned earlier today that seemed to have been beamed in from an alternate universe:

https://www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=612082597

KELLY: All right, here now is NPR justice correspondent Carrie Johnson. Welcome back, Carrie.

CARRIE JOHNSON, BYLINE: Hi there.

KELLY: So I'll just note that the president is marking this one-year anniversary in his own way. He's tweeting about the special counsel and calling the probe, as he has often done before, the greatest witch hunt in American history. So my first question to you is just walk us briefly through what Mueller's team has gotten done this year.

JOHNSON: Yeah, hard to believe it's only one year. They've secured a guilty plea from former foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, who talked about outreach from the Russians. And another guilty plea from former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who lied to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador during the transition. And another guilty plea from deputy campaign manager Rick Gates, who also misled investigators about topics related to Russia.

KELLY: So three guilty pleas.

JOHNSON: Five in total.

Yeah new appliances are garbage. I had to get rid of a 25 year old JennAir downdraft range because it wouldn't transfer when I replaced my countertops and it broke my heart. That thing was made in Indiana and would have kept going forever if I had let it.

Via Rantburg:

The U.S. Justice Department has agreed to provide congressional investigators confidential records on a failed gun-trafficking operation during the Obama administration known as "Fast and Furious" that long has been criticized by Republican lawmakers.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department would hand over documents to the Republican-led House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that had been withheld by Democratic former President Barack Obama's administration.

The agreement reached by Republican President Donald Trump's administration will effectively end a six-year long legal battle in which the committee had gone to federal court to try to enforce a subpoena it had issued to obtain the records....

Obama lost again. Not tired of winning yet.

Via Insty this morning:

WASHING OUT BAD REGULATION: If you’ve bought a dishwasher recently, like I have, you’ve probably noticed that you need to run it on the heavy setting to get your dishes clean – and it runs for hours to do so. You can probably guess why – “energy efficiency” regulations from the Department of Energy. However, the law authorizing the regulations includes a provision to “preclude DOE from promulgating a standard that manufacturers are only able to meet by adopting engineering changes that eliminate performance characteristics.” What this means is that the DOE can actually create a class of dishwasher that can get your dishes clean in a hour.

So the Competitive Enterprise Institute has asked Secretary Perry to do so. Or, in the words of the Daily Caller, “Energy Department Petitioned to Stop Making Dishwashers Even Crappier.” As with all petitions, we need your help. To file comments (just a sentence or two will do, perhaps noting your own experience with crappy dishwashers), go to www.dishwasherchoice.com. Or you can go to www.regulations.gov and search for “dishwashers.” Let’s make America’s dishwashers clean again!

I admit my mind is fucked.

I got through one page, almost, of 12 Simple Truths My Teenage Daughter Needs To Know until Jordan Peterson said crabs (lobsters?) "want" and I stopped and said they (lobsters/crabs) don't "want" because as other-than-human they are incapable of "want". (Or "want." if that's your preference.)

So, I admit my mind is fucked.

But what the hell (not Hell the place unbelievers burn for eternity in) is Pertersob thinking when writing about what crabs "want" when a decent education ought have taught him and everyone insects/sea creatures don't "want" as if they were humans personified BECAUSE THEY AIN'T FUCKIN' HUMANS PERSONIFIED.

Anyway, go on. You read it and live and oven it: I will consider why potential dictionary definitions of "want" are fucked.

Guildofcannonballs said...

Learn/live/love not oven.

Sorry Jews, no trigger meant.

Or, since I am a proven Jew hating anti-Jew hater, was it meant to trigger the Jenn Rubin's among???

narciso said...

Thank you for sharing, I think by 'want' he means instincts or impulses direct them toward certain goals.

Guildofcannonballs said...

“Trump’s rise was an expression of sub-revolutionary anger by a wide swath of dissatisfied and mainly not overly prosperous or influential people.”

The non-politician Trump's "rise" was an "expression" of that?

What politician's "rise" hasn't been?

Do these fucks all believe everyone is above average?

Makes policy real easy: be higher-than-above-average IQ like me! Problems solved, eternally! Just be it!

Who is influential in this Vic Hansen mindset one wonders, and did the UW Madison filmed "Back to School" show us?

Guildofcannonballs said...

If "want" means "needs something essential" then fuck it.

What is the point?

Write "needs something essential" unless as a human you want money more than clarity* and you feel "want" can jabberwocky the rubes thinking rubeishly.

Ah, so there it is, I finally (to me) solved the "Stairway to Heaven" strategic ambiguity mystery.

Tupac decided to personify evil and did it well.

I learned lessons.

If you feel as though you know him so well you can condemn him to Hell then you know lots and lots of things.

Evil is not visible. Ever learn or teach that?

Acts are visible, but evil itself isn't ergo Tupac was spot on with his ancient observation "in the flesh" but unseen.

Guildofcannonballs said...

Okay I remembered: if "want" is a needful essential thing only current species in existence are included in that provincial, limited definition as many extinct or not-existed (yet) species "want" essentially their death.

Square that fucking circle with the wanton use of "want."

If Pterjobs agrees species "want" that which obliviates them, and is essential to their NON-survival, I'all concur crabs want that too.

They want their essential extinction.

The lefties and their LLR allies went radio silent tonight.

For good reason: every single assumption asserted by those on the right over the last 18 months about just what LLR Chuck's beloved obambi and his admin pulled has now essentially been confirmed by those very same lefties in the lefties "bible", the NYT.

Every. Single. Assumption...re: obambi admin spying, placing of moles, using agent provocateur methods, beginning a counter-intelligence "Op" against Trump and his campaign with no basis and then using secret warrants that do not undergo judicial review, colluding with foreigners to manufacture false information, allowing access to raw data from the 702 FISA system by democrat oppo researchers, Comey giving his lefty "special pal" and now lawyer access to all electronic intercept records, Comey lying about what he testified to in closed session with congressional committee's, Brennan lying, Clapper lying, etc etc etc etc.

It's all there.

And we haven't even begun to pull back the onion on Sally Yates, the state dept under Kerry and all his and Hillary's slugs there, the obama admin senior leadership, etc.

Every bit of it true.

Or not.

After all, Susan Rice sent an email to herself in the final hours of the obambi presidency where she claims obama wanted everything done by the book......

LOL

Well, everything was done "by the book". What she failed to do was identify that "the book" was written by East Germans.....
