"You know how most people say less is more? I’m like f*ck that. More is more. I’m like, let’s see how high I can get these lashes."

"Because I really like to do the spider lashes, a good day is when my lashes touch my eyebrows.... A lot of my colleagues here always say something about my strong presence in the office. I think it’s because I put in the work to take care of myself, so I can take care of others. I know firsthand that if I don’t take care of myself in the morning, I’m not confident and I don’t feel happy. I think my lashes represent this thing about self-respect that also helps garner respect from my peers and people I meet with on a day-to-day basis. It makes me honestly engage with people a little bit more and has taught me the importance of eye contact."

From "Why I Make My Eyelashes Look Fake Every Day" by Aydah Albaba as told to Shannon Barbour.

A good day for me is when something seems bloggable and then just serendipitously contains the word "garner."

Wasn't it Yngwie Malmsteen who first said "More is more"?

I wonder if her colleagues would describe her as having "strong presence" or would they use another word, like 'bitch'. Someone who has their ego wrapped up in their eyebrows like this woman does, I would bet a lot of money that this lady is nightmare to work with.

When you don't have to keep up with the recent court opinions and law journal articles, it's amazing how much time that opens up in your schedule.

The delusion is strong in this one.

Wait, is it acceptable again to comment on a woman's looks at the office?

Heh - I thought the delusional state was represented by "put in the work to take care of myself, so I can take care of others".

He might have been the first if he was around in 1869.

And, Althouse can use a catchy quote for her post title w/o needing to do an economic analysis re Google ads.

Livin' the dream in Mad Town.

P.S.
Hint: how about less positive reinforcement re giving attention to the gardener being on the roof?

P.P.S.
Even if yur thinking about getting a new companion (e.g. one who brings dough v bringing gardening skilz, it's not nice to go about it this way. IHMO.

When young I couldn't wear mascara with sunglasses, my eyelashes were so long. Mascara would smudge the lenses or make my lashes so hard that blinking was uncomfortable, even after curling them. I didn't look like a freak so I just not have been alone in this.

“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

Applies equally to lashes.

My eye-rolling stopped as I moved through the paragraph and saw that enhancing her eyebrows was a device for establishing dominance in the office. Whatever gets you through the day, man. I'm glad I didn't have to do that in the newsroom (which is why I never was promoted).

It's certainly a better strategy than one I heard about. The publisher, Rolfe Neil, and the executive editor were interviewing a woman for the managing editorship at The Charlotte Observer back in the '80s, and they told her after the interview that she didn't seem to show enough passion for her profession.

She went out and filled a box with passion-related products, including Passion perfume (no sex toys, however).

She got the job.

Eyelashes seem like one of those many things that women pay attention to but men probably ignore. I can think of one time in my life when I thought, "That lady has interesting eyelashes." It was a porn star who had put on this elaborate rig that was like a peacock feather hanging off her eye. Short of that, I think a lot of us won't notice.

I'm also pretty sure I've never thought a woman looked better because of earrings. But maybe it's just me.

Is this her displaying her confidence inspiring lashes?

You've never heard of all the nun spas that can't keep up with demand?

I assume the "strong presence in the office" means she wears too much perfume.

Ick. When I have "spider lashes," I usually assume pink eye.

She brings to mind a particular stacked secretary who did good work at the receptionist desk area with floor covered in Oak Parquet squares. She wore spike heels with steel tips so she could be heard quickly walking around from any office. She demanded our respect, and she got it. Trouble was, after several years she had splintered the flooring.

I admire women who look good in their makeup - at least, I admire what they look like - but I don't think of it as "empowering".

Powerful people have more important things to do with their time than fuss over superficial things like that. I imagine POTUS wears a lot of makeup in front of cameras, but I also imagine he's very impatient while media professionals are putting it on him.

And that's true whether we're talking Trump or Obama or W or Clinton: I'm guessing they probably think the people who preferred Kennedy over "haggard" Nixon were morons. Gotta adjust for the morons. (Maybe that's why they think we're all "deplorable" now? With Hillary more so because she has to waste more time on the stupid makeup?)

I take 10 minutes to get ready in the morning. I take care of others just fine, thank you.

Shit, I was just thinking about chicks' eyelashes recently and then here it is as a subject on Althouse, it's funny how that shit works out. Like, there's the internet we read, and then there's the internet in our minds -- shit like that.

Anyway, here is the chick who got me thinking about eyelashes:the foto at a clickbait site, but the foto is, like, good and shit, it's okay.

I mean, she's a cute chick, and I can say that without being creepy and shit because she's eighteen, I think. And those eyelashes are pretty sweet, even if they're fake and shit, because they get the demure coquettish thing going on with her downward gaze and smile. I think I may have mentioned it before, but I like the photos best where a chick isn't trying to make eye contact with you through the camera, that shit makes me agitated and shit, so that's good, too.

And I read where she liked the dress because it was modest, which is cool, but modest must mean something different to kids these days, even when they're in Utah, because that dress is hugging pretty tight on that ass, and that slit on the side rocks. But I think she means modest because it doesn't make a big deal about her tits, so I get that.

As far as the dude who was saying it was culturally inappropriate for her to be wearing the dress because it's Chinese and shit: like, the fucking iPhone you're tweeting that shit on was made in China, which I was going to then develop into a point, but it isn't worth the time because, like, dude: you're a dick.

I post my shit here.
